Been a mechanic going in 14 years and the old man's been doing it over 35 we use gates kits never had an issue to date 👍

i flat refuse to fit Gates timing belt shits... i mean kits, INA or Dayco at the moment until i have an issue.

Could you kindly clarify Sir; did you say "seems solid" as in good, or "seized solid" as in not good? Also, from how many years back were these fitted as a replacement to the host vehicle, ie were they from 6, 8, 10 or even (say) just 2 years ago? Kind regards.

I just tried fitting a Gates timing belt tensioner, the hex key hole snapped out as soon as I tried turning it. The thin cast aluminium is too weak. Now the part is useless.

just had INA deflection idler split in 2 halves poor design. fit solid type e.g gates

Gates used to be great. Then all the manufacturing went to the cheapest supplier in China, some no-name brand. SKF, NTN, INA or NSK. Even if made in China, it has far better tolerances. Bearings are more important than the belt itself! It's not like you save much money picking a proper brand. Glad I went SKF, not a mech either, just know proper engineering when I see it.
