I just see Brattle in the title description and I am here. Almost as food as the real thing.

Great book haul. Lovely to see little Miss Frieda. Really helped cheer me up after an extremely sad day here in the UK 💔

Lovely Bean sighting! On the licking: one of my (easy now) cats does the same thing, and I’ve adopted the same preventative measure. Mrs. Rubenstein will continue to lick my hand for a while and then just stop.

My reading update- I am in the middle of midterms and was missing fiction. I told myself I would read the first chapter of 'Little Dorrit' thinking I wouldn't let myself get committed to a such a large book during this stressful time . 20 pages in I realized it was giving me that ever elusive 'reading magic'... what ever shall I do??

FDR: cometh the hour, cometh the man? I don't know enough about him to judge.

I wonder how common it is for used bookstore to constantly change out their inventory, or if that practice is unique to the Brattle? Its such a great idea, but i suppose it only works when you have a customer base large enough to make it profitable?

I saw once a micro-puddle while I was at the vet from the woman by my side. He also had that compulsion, and he licked his paw until muscle was exposed. That is why he was at the vet.

What philosophy do you enjoy reading? Have you read the works of William Irwin Thompson? Check out his books: Time Falling Bodies Take To Light aswell as Coming into Being which gives an entirely new way of viewing literature as such, mythopoeic metaphors of ontology and metaphysics -- you seem to have a very sensuous indulgence of books at its pure base level: what philosophy are you initiated in? I also recommend Spengler's decline of the west aswell as Jean Gebsers ever-present origin. I'm certain that in all your decades will not have found such great literary criticisms (moreso cultural criticisms through literary lens) in such grand metanarratives sweeping all domains of knowledge. It's as if one can create an ecology of mind to make conceptual discourse fun. It would give a real boost to your ability to review since the lens of the structure of the reviewer is just as important as the content of the review.

I assume you're some sort of atheist? Thompson, Gebser and Spengler do a good job of being metaphysical, not in some new age sense or a cringy fundamentalist way, but in a true mythopoeic way that merges science and spirit into One.

I have that same aversion for some odd reason. Steve, you just answered why I grudgingly admire FDR and yet also loathe some of his policies. He undeniably helped save the free world from both Communism and Fascism but he was quite an ass.
