Well, three things immediately come to mind. One, a phone can be destroyed, and a battery can be punctured. Two, the sheer amount of radioactive materials required to make battery for every phone produced every day. Three, the potential collections of said radioactive material for either straight-up terroristic and / or nefarious acts, and a little bit of skepticism of how one would dispose of said 50 year old battery when it's life span is up. Not to mention that fact that radioactive shielding can only do so much, so in high density areas with lots of people who own phones, the background radiation and Gamma radiation produced would probably be fatal.
