They didn’t know they would die. They trusted the Captain to keep them safe and he had been giving them instruction, assuring them that if they listened they would be safe. So they joked about it. I can only imagine how confusing and horrible it must have been for them when the water began rushing in and it became too late to save themselves. All the captain had to do was instruct everyone to put on their life vests and evacuate calmly to the top deck. They would have survived if he had done that. And he knew they should have done that, because that is exactly what he did to save his own life. I am glad he got the death penalty. 300 lives wasted for incompetence.

Parents, please let this be a lesson. Do not teach your children to blindly trust in authority. They were children who didn’t know any better, but those who questioned the instruction and evacuated against orders survived. Respect for elders teaches children to place trust in the wrong people sometimes.

RIP precious souls. May you live on forever in our hearts. Even sadder, to listen to majority of the people singing BTS “봄날Spring Day”. Heart breaking. Absolutely heart breaking.

👇🏼

so basically what happened was there was this ferry with about 476 student on it and 250 from another school, the ferry started sinking and the captain knew about it, so he saved himself and some of the crew members. as some if the students were trying to get out they pushed them back in. there was about 306 students that died, and it breaks my heart. the photo with the string connecting the two people, they did that so they wouldn’t die alone, the Captain and i think 2 other people were charged with murder.

i hate that man.
this literally crushes my heart.
everyone should know that man for what he has done.
the whole world should hate, every single person.

For those who don’t understand: The ferry MV Sewol sank on the morning of April 16, 2014, en route from Incheon towards Jeju in South Korea.[16] The 6, 825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi; 1.5 nmi) north of Byeongpungdo at 08:58 KST (23:58 UTC, April 15, 2014).[17] Out of 476 passengers and crew, 306 died in the disaster, including around 250 students from Danwon High School in Ansan City.[18][19][20] Of the approximately 170 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes before the Korea Coast Guard (KCG).[21]*some more information* The sinking of Sewol resulted in widespread social and political reaction within South Korea. Many people criticized the actions of the ferry's captain and most of the crew.[22] Also criticized were the ferry's operator, Chonghaejin Marine, and the regulators who oversaw its operations, [23] along with the administration of President Park Geun-hye for her response to the disaster and attempts to downplay government culpability, [24] and the KCG for its poor handling of the disaster, and the perceived passivity of the rescue-boat crew on scene.[25] Outrage has also been expressed against the initial false reporting of the disaster by the government and South Korean media, who claimed everyone aboard had been rescued, [26][27] and against the government for prioritizing public image over the lives of its citizens in refusing help from other countries, and publicly downplaying the severity of the disaster.[28][29]

I still don't understand why the captain didn't just let them swim out from the beginning. Since all of them had life jackets

The sad part is in their religion. They have to obey elders and so that’s why they had to stay on no matter what they couldn’t disobey them so most of them stayed on 😭

Honestly I don't wanna think about how their parents saying

"I hope you have a amazing trip dear"

It made me burst out in tears

Why did he do that?

Backstory:

He was the captain of the sewol ferry carring 476 passengers with 325 students and 12 teachers. They were heading to jeju island for a "field trip." When the ship started to tip, the captain went on the innercom and told everyone to hold on to a pole and shut their doors. After he said that he ran outside and tricked the rescue members an told them he has a student and no one wa left on the ship. While he left the ferry started to fill up and up. Some students made videos, texted their parents and more.Out of the 476 students that were on this ship before the tradigy occurred, 304 sadly died and 250 of the passengers were students. 2 days later the principle hung him self because he planed the trip and he took the guilt.

Sad fact.
It's against the Korean law to leave any kind of ship before saving anyone.

He was later sentenced to life in prison and the 14 who also abandoned the ship were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

4 of the crewmates stayed behind to help the students, but then died.

Here's the date that the tragedy happened.
April 14 2014

Thank you for reading
my long passage. Have a great day.
