The U.N. climate summit is back in Africa after six years and four consecutive Europe-based conferences. COP27 will be held in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt and begins next week. It’s taking place in the shadow of the largest war in Europe in decades, which has sparked global food and energy crises and raised fears it could distract leaders from promises made last year in Glasgow. Bloomberg's Akshat Rathi has more on what to expect.

What climate crisis? Global temps have only risen by 2 degrees over the past 100 years. The earth has gone through these cycles for billions of years. The last warming cycle got much warmer than this and both polar caps completely melted. Then the cycle changed and we entered the previous ice age. I'm thankful we're in a warming cycle and not a cooling cycle.

Right, time to hear what’s to be done. How will you move away from fossil fuels that currently supply 85% of global energy (Renewables 10%. The other 5% is nuclear.)

Your renewables starting point is 7% hydro, 1% wind, 1% solar and 1% other. Also to consider is that energy consumption increases annually as the developing countries develop. Estimated increase above 2020 usage is 50% by 2050.

I’m very keen to hear your engineered technological solutions, the detailed schedule and the year this will be achieved.

Doesn’t matter if climate change is man made or not, it’s getting warmer. The problem is 200 countries will not reach set goals, given if they all agree on them first. It would take the entire populace of earth going green at the same time. Adaptation is a more realistic and cost effective solution.
