Deep beneath the Earth, vast and humid caves stretch for miles, some plunging deeper than the tallest skyscrapers. The deepest known cave, Veryovkina Cave in Georgia, reaches 7, 257 feet (2, 212 meters)—over twice the height of Burj Khalifa. Inside, the air is thick with moisture, temperatures range from 39-50°F (4-10°C), and water drips constantly, forming underground rivers, lakes, and waterfalls. Some caves, like Krubera Cave, even create their own weather systems, with mist swirling in total darkness, where unique life forms like blind fish and mineral-eating bacteria thrive.

It is estimated that the cave in this video is around 620 meters deep.

The rock hit the bottom at approximately 14 seconds, and if the gravitational acceleration of the earth is 9.8m/s², then we can calculate using the formula d= ½gt², and using the given, d= ½ x 9.8 x 14² = 960.4 then it means that the cave is approximately 960.4 meters deep. And if the speed of sound is 343m/s, then we can also calculate using the formula Time = Distance ÷ Speed, and also using the given, Time = 960.4 ÷ 343 = 2.8, then it means that the sound of the rock hitting the bottom took approximately 2.8 seconds.

Thank you for reading❤.

I'm very sorry for the miscalculation, I included the speed of sound in which we hear the rock falling, the cave is approximately 620 meters deep, and the real time of the rock hitting the ground was approximately 11.28 seconds and that is including the delay of sound.

(and btw, I didnt use any AI for this)

For those who don't know: This man that threw the rock is named Wong Juhn and he hiked that cave in 2018. Later he got a group with him and he threw the rock just to show them how far down it was. He did it mostly to brag but it's still really surprising! Hope this helped😊

Lemme try to solve it
Total Time = 14 seconds
Gravity = 9.8 m/s^2
Sound Velocity = 343 m/s
Height = h
Step 1) Getting the equations:
h = (1/2)*9.8*square of the time taken to for the rock to fall down(t1)
= 4.9*(t1)^2
h = Speed of Sound * Time taken for sound to reach after falling down
= 343*t2
t1 + t2 = Total time taken to reach sound = 14
t2 = (14 - t1)
Step 2: Solving the Equations:
h = 4.9* (t1)^2 = 343*(14-t1) or 4.9* (t1)^2 = 343*(14-t1)
Now make them quadratic equation: 4.9*(t1)^2 +343t - 4802
Now let's find t1 = [- b + {root over of (b^2 + 4ac)}]/(2a
= [-343 + root over of {(343)^2 + 4*4.9*4802}]/2*4.9 = [-343 + root over of {117649 + 94119.2 = 211768.2}]/9.8 = [460.182789769-343]/9.8 = 117.18278977/9.8 which is almost equal to 11.96
t2 = 14 - t1 = 14 - 11.96 = 2.04s
So h = 343m/s*2.04s = 699.72m = 2295.66929 ft

Edit: Yes I know the fact that there is air resistance and that the moist air inside will create some difference in the speed of sound but I can't calculate them yet.

Okay, let's recalculate with 14 seconds:
* Plug in the values:
* t = 14 seconds
* g = 9.8 m/s²
* d = 0.5 * 9.8 * (14²)
* Calculate:
* 14 squared is 196
* 0.5 * 9.8 * 196 = 960.4
* Result:
* The rock fell approximately 960.4 meters.
Now, to convert 960.4 meters to feet:
* 960.4 meters * 3.28084 feet/meter ≈ 3150.92 feet.
Therefore, if the rock took 14 seconds to fall, it fell approximately 960.4 meters, or about 3150.92 feet.

Given that the cave is full of dripping water and moisture which would change the speed of sound considerably. The "g" constant is also directly proportional to the depth (given time constant). So, the exact depth of cave cannot be calculated by simple formulae while neglecting air resistance and all other conditions mentioned.

Caves can be deep for several reasons, often tied to the processes that create and shape them over long periods of time. Here are some of the key factors:

1. **Water Erosion**: Most caves are formed by water slowly eroding rock, especially limestone, through a process called chemical weathering. Over time, acidic water (often rainwater mixed with carbon dioxide) seeps into cracks and dissolves the rock, carving out passageways and chambers. As the water continues to flow, it can deepen the cave and create more complex networks of tunnels.

2. **Geological Activity**: Caves can also form due to tectonic activity. For instance, the movement of the Earth's crust can create fractures and faults in rock layers, which then allow water to enter and dissolve the rock, leading to the formation of deeper caves.

3. **Vertical Caves**: In some cases, caves form primarily by vertical erosion, where water seeps into the ground and carves downwards through fractures. These types of caves can become quite deep, especially in regions with a lot of rainfall or where the rock is particularly susceptible to erosion.

4. **Collapse of Surface**: Some caves, particularly those in limestone or other soluble rocks, are also formed by the collapse of surface layers, which can create deep vertical shafts. These sinkholes or pits can result in the formation of deep caves, sometimes several hundred meters deep.

5. **Time**: Caves develop over thousands or even millions of years. The slow processes that form caves, like the erosion of rock, accumulate over vast periods of time, allowing caves to grow deeper and larger.

In short, caves can become deep due to the combined effects of erosion, geological forces, and the passage of time.

We can calculate this height using the free fall equation:

h = ½ g t²
t = approximately 15 seconds
Substituting into the equation:

h = ½ × 9.81 × (15)²
h = 4.9 × 225
h = 1102.5 meters

For those who don't know:

Sound's speed 343 m/s
Rock's speed=m*g=(m*meters)/s²=H
H/s=m*meter/s
To found time we needs to S/v=(S*2)/343+Rock's speed
Changed: it's just physics

if you are curious about how deep the hole is, I think I can help, to calculate the depth based on the free fall time (13 seconds), we can use this formula:
Depth (h) = 0.5 x gravitational acceleration (g) x time (t)2
The value of gravitational acceleration (g) on the earth's surface is about 9.8 m/s².
So, we can calculate the depth as follows:
h = 0.5 x 9.8 m/s² x (13 s)²
h = 0.5 x 9.8 m/s² x 169 s²
h = 828.1 meters
So, the depth calculated from the free fall time of 13 seconds is about 828.1 meters. However, keep in mind this is not very accurate and can be affected by other factors such as air resistance and the density of the falling object. (give me criticism or suggestions if I'm wrong hehe)

Stone 🪨 hita the surface after 15 second so time = 15 second
So find out h ....
h = ut+ 1/2 gt²
h is the height
u is the initial velocity
t is the time (15 seconds)
g is the acceleration due to gravity
But If the stone was dropped (initial velocity = 0), so
h = 1/2 ×9.8×15 m/s²
[height = 1102.5 Meter] 😮 Means its depth is 1102.5 meters🙌🙌

Edit for Full solution and correct solution 🤌

so sound speed in air is 343 coz " the speed of sound at the surface. So, it would still be approximately 343 m/s, assuming a temperature close to 20 C° so sound speed taken 343 m/s so
1102.5/343= 3.21second
15-3.21= 11.785 second
Now using the equation
h = 1/2×9.8×11.785×11.785
[h = 680.5 meter] It's a Correct answer 🤌💀 it's a Best advance level Question nice 👍
btw thank For likes 🥰🥰❤️

Its not as deep as you think, the sound it takes to reach us takes quite a long time and you may think during that it is still falling

time taken for the sound to come ( T ) = 15 second (approx)

speed of sound ( S ) = 343 m/s

acceleration due to gravity ( g ) = 9.8 m/s^2 (could be different for different places and depth)

time taken to hit the ground = t1

time taken for sound to come after rock has hit the ground = t2

// neglecting air resistance and other forces as there is no way to find them

depth = d

t1 + t2 = T - eq 1

d = (g * t1^2) / 2 - eq 2

d = S * t2 - eq 3

substituting eq 1 in eq 3
d = S * ( T - t1 ) -- eq 4

from eq 4 we get
t1 = sqrt( 2 * d / g )

putting value of t1 in eq 2, we get
d = S * T - S * sqrt( 2 * d / g)

d + S * sqrt( 2 / g ) * sqrt( d ) - S * T = 0

we will solve the above equation using quadratic formula taking sqrt( d ) as x.

d = square( sqrt( 2 * S^2 / g + 4 * S * T ) - S * sqrt( 2 / g ) ) / 4

putting values of constant we get

d = 789 meters

so the cave is around 800 meters deep the value could change if we consider different value of constant, also if we consider that gravitational acceleration is decreasing then the value would be different.
