I would like to thank the trans community for helping open my eyes to some terms used in this video!

For clarification, I refer to Zach Barack as 'also transgender', yet due to accent barriers has been picked up by several viewers as 'A transgender'. I have edited the auto-generated subtitles accordingly. I would also like to thank people for addressing my incorrect use of the term 'transgenderism'.

Thank you for enlightening me about your incredibly community, and here's to more brilliant representation in future! You rock! - Connor :D

I feel like the whole arc of Norma is hard struggles experiencing life as an autistic person
Having a meltdown from sensory overload keeps coming back on her hesitation to being touched throughout the series
Her admiration to Pauline is not merely an obsession, it's a Special Interest which goes much more deeper as these genuinely have an impact in our way of living, moods and personalities, and I know first hand what it's like to have it come breaking down on you which she manifests in a big denial and then Courtney making it "not a big deal" really poking the injury

I love that barney is named because he 'loves dinosaurs'.

I'm impressed with how quickly I fell in love with this show, it feels like a twist between grim adventures of billy and mandy mashed with the lovingly queer nature of owl house with the mystery of gravity falls. the greatest part is that this show was developed from a cartoon hangover short developed years ago.

I LOVED dead end. I’m so angry with Netflix, they didn’t publicise it at all. There’s not even a single post or story in instagram. They didn’t trust that show for some reasons so it will probably remain niche, kinda sad.

I think one of the aspects I like in dead end is how they pace the episodes
like from episodes 1-5 its more on character development and knowing barney, norma, pugsley, courtney and the crew of dead end
while episodes 6-10 is more about the story of pauline phoenix and her doppelgangers (and of course the sweets moments of barney and logs in episode 6 and norma and badyah bonding moments in episode 7)
and episode 9 is just the cherry on top for everything

I am not familiar with the comic so I came into this show not knowing the source material. My draw to watching this show was Alex Brightman voicing Pugsley/Temeluchus as I loved him in the Broadway musicals of Beetlejuice and School of Rock. He does a great job switching between both characters very well as he is using the same technique for voicing Temeluchus as he does for Beetlejuice. And the duet he sings is awesome. I read in an interview with Hamish Steele that in the musical episode, Pugsley didn't originally have his own song, but after Alex was brought in, he knew they had to take advantage of Brightman's singing talents.

But this show did really surprise me with how great it was. Writing was top notch, the characters were well developed, and by the end of episode 10, I wanted more. Hopefully this show gets a season 2.

Oh, I didn’t know that it was ‘revealed’ that he is trans. I knew as soon as he mentioned his grandmother not “accepting ‘Barney’” in the first moment you see him, I do like that they flat out said it though.

norma's arc was more of a "don't meet your heroes". it was about having to come to face with who the person she admires truly like and moving on from there.

her fear of meeting new people wasn't needed to be explored much beyond episode 3 because like many social anxiety people she met the group she is comfortable with. and it was shown she didn't really feel the need to interact much with other people. though it was nice to see her bonding with that kid over shared interests.

As an Autistic person myself I think Norma's issues with socialization being largely dropped off after her break in the third episode makes a decent amount of sense! That was her moment of coming to grips with being able to really trust the core cast, and once you've gotten over that hurdle, things tend to go really smoothly aside from maybe the odd hiccup here or there because you said something without realizing the impact of it. She isn't really introduced to any new characters that make a considerable impact on her or her self-concept so it's not as big of a stressor as trying to interact with a close peer group, at least that's my take on it!

I was super bored one day and just went on to Netflix and was immediately drawn in. The art style, storyline and voice acting was great.

Another thing I don't see a lot of people talk about is Barney's Jewishness and while I am not Jewish Self I think it's really nice to see it

When trans rep is given it's always 4 trans girls. As a trans guy I'm so desperate 4 rep that as soon as I heard he's trans I RAN to Netflix to watch this show. It's AWESOME. His issues with his family are so realistic, and he's just generally a likeable character. I also loved the metaphors, like pugsley letting the mascots up 2 meet ppl and barney saying that he should go back to how he was b4 getting the ability to talk "4 his safety" without really listening to him and pugsley says he sounded like grammy gram. I also love how they tackled the issue with him and his little brother and how it was explained through the night and day hags. I couldn't have asked 4 better rep honestly. Any trans kid, or parents to trans kids NEED to watch this

Honestly this show is so underrated!! The characters are so well written and relatable, and I absolutely freaked out over how much I could relate to Barney as a trans man myself, and I've never seen a trans man in media like this, just being happy and himself, being happy and having crushes, not having to suffer all the time or eventually getting killed off. It felt magical to finally get some good representation. This show was genuinely so well made and beautifully and I hope it gets more recognition.

Honestly as a trans guy it was so insane to actually see a show tell trans kids that they genuinely deserve unconditional love from their families. I really wish I had this show when I was younger but I'm so glad that we have it now!!!! Also Courtney was iconic I love her so much

I’m happy they pointed out the fact they SUCKED at their job

As an autistic trans guy, I relate to both characters on a deep level. I feel the need to mention being autistic myself made Norma's discorvery of Pauline's true intentions even more heartbreaking, since I tend to hyperfixate on a lot of media and it tends to extend to the people making it. And Barney's story arc hits close to home for me too because my mom has this kind of accepts me but then kind of doesn't really support me thing going on, it's difficult to deal with. Plus I really like this show in general, it reminds me of Gravity falls a lot and the humor is really the best (pluss they won me over completely with Alex Brightman and the musical episode as a musical theatre nerd myself)

A solid cast of 4 with a lot of great twists; I think all four leads (Barney, Norma, Pugsley/Temeluchus and Courtney) were actually interesting all the way through and all 4 had solid arcs that span the whole series in different ways; Barney with his family, Norma going from scared of the world to leader, Courtney from homesick to making a home from herself, Pugsley growing in confidence and Temeluchus walking a mile in the shoes of Pugsley and seeing what humans are really note.

Side note, I only realised Pugsley/Temeluchus were BOTH played by Beetlejuice's Alex Brightman in episode 9 when he started singing... and I think that the real test of any series; you either can't identify the actor or you forget the actor and remember the characters.

I fell in love with this show. The comedy was great and the characters are memorable. Only thing I gotta say about Tem is that my guess on why he wasn't brought up as much probably because once Pugsly took the wheel Tem was forced into the background and was left to observe and feel all the things Pugsly did. leading to him being unable to kill Barney in the last episode while he was completely defenseless. I wish Tem got more dialog or we at least got to hear his thoughts so we could see what was the moment that made him change his mind about human but I guess we'll never know
