To divide 9 by 3/4 we can either multiply the first fraction by its reciprocal OR we could find a common denominator for both fractions. In this video we'll use the reciprocal method. Both methods produce the same answer in fraction form.

First we change 9 ÷ 3/4

to

9 times 3/4 (9 x 4/3 )

This gives us 36/3 which is equal to 12.

So 9 ÷ 3/4 = 12.

Note that if you multiplied 12 times 3/4 you would end with 9.

Multiplying a fraction by its reciprocal is often easier for more complicated fractions where finding a common denominator is more challenging.
