Create Light Stroke Reveal Motion Graphics in After Effects

Here in After Effects, you can right click a title, go to create, and click Create Mask From Text.
With the new outline layer selected apply the stroke effect.
Set the paint style to On Transparent.
Check all mask and uncheck stroke sequentially.
Lastly, animate the end value from 0 to 100%.
Now create a solid and apply the lens flare effect from the generate menu.
Set the blend mode of the solid to screen.
Select your outline layer and hit M on your keyboard to bring up the mask path.
Copy the mask path and paste it to the Flare center of your lens flare effects.
Now you can adjust your lens flare settings and even apply the curves effect to change the color.
Now repeat this process for the other letters with new flare layers and you’re done.

I didn't get the same effect as 0:42. Was there something else added but not shared? It would be nice to see this in a slower version. I had to pause and replay for a few parts several times just to make sure I was doing it right. But thanks for the tutorial! Learned something new.

Handy tip, just wish it wasn't rushed through in a small format video, I can barely see what happening with the text overlay on the bottom, and you're talking so fast I can't follow with out rewinding a bunch. :/

Not sure if anyone can give me a tip, but for some reason when I copy/paste the masks they aren't synced with the actual animation (the flare goes like 10x faster than the stroke animation. I have the stroke set to about 9 seconds, but the flare is done in like 2). It's following the lettering though.

I just starting using AE a few days ago so Im sure I just messed something simple up, but any advice would be great.

Didn’t work for me. I paused the video so many times. But my text is invisible. It’s just a lens flare that follows the stroke path. No text.
