Is there a migrant crime wave under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris? Data going back to 1870 shows that immigrants have been locked up for crimes at lower rates than people born in the U.S., despite former President Donald Trump’s claims.

Transcript:
CHRIS VAZQUEZ 1: Do immigrants commit more crime than people born in the U.S.?

CHRIS 2: No. Here in 1870, immigrants have lower incarceration rates.

CHRIS 1: Is this…

CHRIS 2: A study from the future? Yeah, it is. It’ll be true then, too. A different paper from 2007 argued that…

RESEARCHERS IN 2007: Immigrants commit fewer crimes because “the process of migration selects individuals” who aren’t likely to commit crimes.

CHRIS 2: And 10 years later, researchers looked at data from 200 cities.

RESEARCHERS IN 2017: Our study found that immigrants are less likely to break the law than people born in the U.S. And as immigration goes up, property crime goes down.

CHRIS 2: What about undocumented immigration?

RESEARCHERS IN 2018: That doesn’t increase violence, either.

CHRIS 2: So when politicians — like this guy in the future — say that immigration causes crime, research just doesn’t back that up.

the "facts don't care about your feelings" crowd sure do get their feelings hurt when presented the facts...

As an immigrant myself, we don't want to risk the opportunity we have. Not to mention, we know the system is harsher on us.

Also if you’re desperate to make a new life, why would you do things to get you put in jail or deported

Mom was undocumented, she only recently got a social security number despite being here for +20? years .
But she's had an ITIN number for idk how lomg.
Thats years and years of income tax and she'll have nothing to show for it, at the very least I'll be able to support her after I get out of uni.
She should have tried entering legally, but she was desperate, and if she didn't, I wouldn't have had the opportunities I did, and I returned the favor by studying as hard as I could.

For those in the comments talking about immigrants not paying taxes. First of all, look up what a 1040-NR is. Second of all, you can do your taxes with a Social Security number or an ITIN (individual taxpayer identification number) given to you by the IRS. Immigrants pay their income tax, are not entitled to a cent of what they paid into the Social Security system, and don't qualify for a ton of tax credits that require that you (and your dependents if relevant) have Social Security numbers. My mother became a legal resident after 12 years of living and working in tbe U.S. and paying her income taxes using at ITIN, and her years of labor don't count at all towards Social Security. My father is in another country now and he got a letter a few weeks ago from the IRS saying he owes money on his 1040 from the year 2014. If he didn’t pay up, he could have his visa applications rejected.

The comment section under all these posts is hilarious, people ignoring the evidence and studies just because you look slightly young

I have heard a lot about immigration from debates and my family, but I genuinely have no idea if any of it is true. It's good to see these videos, though I wish they were more in depth, and had sources linked (but I don't think yt lets you do links, so I'll let it slide)

it makes sense when you just think about it a little bit. why would they commit crimes when there is risk of deportation? why would they cause trouble in a country they look up to or in a place they had to flee to? natural-born citizens usually don't have as much to lose.

Feelings don’t care about the facts. If people mistakenly believe immigrants are dangerous, they will vote for leaders who get rid of them. And thus we have Trump

Now you should do one about how most drugs that come over the border (something like 96% iirc) is transported by native born citizens

However, 100% of people that entered illegally committed the crime of entering illegally. Imagine that. Buckle up sweatheart.

Interesting. In Germany it is much differents. Immigrants here are overrepresented in crimes, especially sexual crimes. Their rate of committing sexual crimes is double that of German citizens, for example.

That study only deals with the arrest rate in one state, Texas. Texas accounts for only 15% of the illegals in the USA. There is no information about crime rates for the other 85%.

And even if they did, Trump would still be a worse choice for keeping them out
