-------------------------------------------------------------------
Small is an understatement! The new DEWALT XTREME 12V Sub-Compact 5 in 1 Drill/Driver is tiny and packed with power for its size. We pushed this drill with some spade bits and it can get very hard on your wrist very quickly. For the size, this drill packs a punch. Of course, this is an installation tool and really does not need all of the power that it has, but you should never be let down!

The Variable Speed Trigger will not disappoint as it will allow you to get the perfect speed with little effort. The 15 settings on the mechanical clutch perform flawlessly and without much noise.

The QD hex heads fit well with little play.

I rate this tool as a buy for someone needing a small tool for installation. I like the feel, comfort and layout better than some of the other brands of this style of tool.

I love my DeWalt 20v tools. My brother just gave me the 12v drill and I love it for tight areas. This has to be my next 12v tool.

Glad to see DeWalt really getting behind the 12v platform

I'm a Milwaukee man, but good to see the yellow team really stepped up their game.

Nice thing about DeWalt 12volt is you won't need to pack around an additional charger. When installing cabinets and drilling overhead, ide take every ounce and inch outta the drill I can.

Nice review Brian!! I have the Red and Blue version of this tool. The Red version has so many negatives for me, I have small hands so the Dewalt grip is perfect for me!! The Red one has the Festool “C” type grip, I’m not a fan because it defeats the purpose of getting this into tight places AND the dealbreaker for the Red one is the foreword and reverse switch location!!!! I never got used to it being on top, what was R&D thinking??? Thanks for the review and making my wallet $180 lighter!!! LOL

Looks good--I like what I have (some M12 Fuel and brushed Bosch 12v) but Dewalt is working it with their new 12v stuff. If they come out with a good oil-impulse 12v impact I will be tempted to switch, especially since I have a set of 20v Dewalt tools.
Nice review, keep up the good work.

I dunno about the rest of you but when I'm drilling into a 4x4, with ANY drill, I ALWAYS...ALWAYS...A L W A Y S!!! clear the chips part way through.

Some contractors have chosen this over the DCF850 as ther primary driver! Speed is on par but it saves a lot of weight working overhead.

I really hope Skil comes out with their version.

Now that I've owned both, I can say this: far more comfortable than the M12 tool; offset head with locking collet works better than the M12 offset head. It stands on its own!! The drill has more power than the M12 tool AND more power than even the M12 Fuel hammer drill/driver when using the DeWalt 5.0Ah battery (against the XC6.0 Milwaukee battery). Manual clutch is nice.

I sold my M12 tool, and my M12 Fuel hammer drill/driver. This DeWalt beats them both.

Fantastic tool. These DeWalt 12V Tools really come alive with the 3 & 5ah batteries. The 2ahs in the kits are pretty much trash. Throw the 5ah on there, and it will amaze you to it's capability. Just FYI.

If milwaukee had put a normal frw/rvs switch on their version I would have bought it already. Been holding off hoping they fix it.

Good review I’m actually watching this as it popped up in my suggested list quite a while after I bought mine. The one thing that I would say maybe should’ve been added is clutch setting one and two on low are perfect for doing very delicate fastening applications. With a number zero Phillips bit it will easily put hinges on a small jewelry box with the little tiny screws and never strip them out. Another thing that was not covered in this review was the fact that the batteries can be charged on most Dewalt chargers that come with their 20 V max tools also. The only one that the battery will not fit on is the first charger DCB118 as the amperage that it produces is too high for the 12 V batteries. With that being said Dewalt made the DC be118 fast charger so that the battery for the 12 V will not lineup to be slid the final little bit to engage the pins. But the rest of the chargers have a small little cut out that a little tiny tab on the side of the battery that would normally face the tool slips right into and engages with the charging pins perfectly allowing folks like me who have the 12 V the 20 V max and the flex volt tools to utilize one charger style to charge all batteries. Obviously different size in different amp our batteries take different times but all relatively quick and more than adequate. My final thought is for anyone with smaller hands most of Dewalt hand grips fit well but if you are a lady or if you have a lady that likes working with you or if you have younger children 789 years old who like to help you do projects and fix things this is absolutely perfect and balance weight and size and plenty of torque for the compact package that it is.

Great tool very powerful especially being equipped with a 2.0 battery imagine a 3.0 or 5.0 battery. It'll be just that much powerful.

Nice review, but both the built-in 1/4" hex bit holder and the one on the 90° attachment, utilize a magnet to hold bits in place, not friction.
