The Interesting Reason Why The Airbus A300 Got Its Name

The Airbus A300 was the first official Airbus aircraft built. But why did Airbus choose the name “A300” for its first aircraft and not a title that might have been perhaps more flashy? This was at a time when the world was familiar with names like the ‘de Havilland Comet’ or the Concorde.

Thanks for this trivia. Many happy memories of A300B4 Indian Airlines, Thai, Swissair. Very comfy plane. Last flight A300 600 Kuwait Airways 2011. Airbus was a small player in the 70 and 80s. Today Airbus is big. Well done Airbus

Why took Boeing the 7x7 as name for they planes?

A300 is kinda underdog airplane. A300 started the wide body twin jet trend. Planes like B767, B777, A330 would'nt have existed if Airbus hadn't demonstrated that wide body twin is a viable concept.

Bet Ryanair would fit 300 passengers in that 260 seater.

No wonder that the A300B1 only made in two units, i personally find that the A300B1 could be made for a very niche customers who wanting it, probably around 10 units. Its like its replacement would be the A310-200/-300 in the next 15-20 years inoperation.

Anyway, the A300 was one of my favourite widebodies of the 70s, along with L1011 and 747 (especially SP model).
The A300 would be used on high density domestic or short haul international, the L1011 would be the advanced backbone of the widebody, and the 747 would be the flagship.

I was in the first group of Eastern Airlines pilots trained on the A-300-B4 in Toulouse, France. It was a fantastic plane to fly and was good for longer flights as well as medium range. I believe we had about 260 seats in two class service.

The original plan was to use the Rolls-Royce RB.207 engine, rated at around 52, 000 lb. thrust, for the plane. When Rolls-Royce couldn’t continue the RB. 207 program, Airbus scaled down the plane to use the General Electric CF6-50 engine. Interestingly, when Airbus developed the A330 in the 1980’s, the A330-300 model was very close in length to the original A300 design, and the A330-300 first flew with the Rolls-Royce Trent 768 engine.

Good video! Can you explain about… How many variants are there of the A300B? For example, A300-B2-200, A300-B2-320, A300-B4-200, A300-B2-100 or A300-B1-100??? Pls?

Huh, interesting, maybe the re-design according to Air France's preferences is why the last section of the cabin including the row of windows is slightly inclined so it could be extended further into the tail section. I always found that somewhat peculiar.
