Did You Know In THE IRON GIANT…

The surname of two lead characters has a hidden meaning that is actually linked to the movie’s source material in a way. Hogarth and Annie’s second name, Hughes, is a reference to writer Ted Hughes. Hughes was in fact the author of the original 1968 children’s book which the movie version is based on, with the novel’s title being The Iron Man instead of The Iron Giant. It is believed that Warner Bros. wanted to divert any confusion between the movie and the Marvel character of the same name.

Fun fact, Ted Hughes wrote the book for his children after their mother and his wife, Sylvia Plath, passed away

The book was pitched on the idea that what if weapons had a soul? The author came to this idea because his sister died to gun violence from her estranged husband

Because Warner Brothers learns from their mistakes?

Did you know? In The Iron Giant, the Giant says "Superman" as it hits the nuke, this is a reference to the fact that if it said "IronMan" it would have survived

And that Hogarths dad was in the air force and must have died because at one point you see a picture of him with the same helmet Hogarth puts on

Hogarth. His last name Hughes. This is a reference to the author of the book the film is based on.

The original has one of the craziest boss fights I didn’t expect. Before Pacific Rim, we had that book. Kaiju Combat at its finest. But I’m biased since it’s my childhood.

Did you know Hogarths father was a pilot who died in the Korean war. We get an Easter egg about that during his faceoff with orange hair when they try to stay awake. We see a photograph of a guy on a military plane.

Have you ever wondered if stark industries built the iron giant because if you look at when the iron giant opens his chest the Lazer kind of looks like iron mans arc reactor so maybe stark industries built the iron giant for a giant gun just like in the first iron man movie they built weapons.
