You're 100% correct!! Retired US Army Engineer Soldier here. 23 years of service in an Engineer bridging unit. Bridging units have all the equipment that is most needed in this disaster. Equipment to bridge rivers that have missing or damaged crossings. Rubber rafts, outboard motors, chain saws, machetes, high water vehicles with off road capability, tents, cots, field kitchens, bulldozers, excavators, off road capable trucks to haul supplies. We were ready to deploy to help during Hurricane Katrina and were never called up. I guarantee you my old unit won't be tasked to help this time either. It's sickening and infuriating. Equipment that has cost the taxpayer millions of dollars will sit unused. It's criminal!

I am a mortician for 35 years. For disasters like this, DMORT mortuary volunteers would be called to go help retrieve, identify and embalm bodies. We would preserve bodies for transport so families could say goodbye. Well, years back we were told FEMA was going to be taking on many of these jobs. We all thought it was strange because it is a specialized field. Anyway, we learned during COVID that no one was going to help embalm record numbers of bodies we had in our city. We had to build temporary shelters to house bodies at our own expense! FEMA was no where to be found. Last week, I heard that there was going to be coolers set up to house the bodies of flood victims. However, bodies submerged in water need to be embalmed quickly to prevent any more deterioration. This is for the basic need of identification. Licensed embalmers know many strategies to preserve even the most damaged bodies. so loved ones can view/identify them without even more trauma. From what I have seen, local fire departments have been doing their part to retrieve dead community members from piles of debris. Not FEMA. I don't think FEMA gives a crap about these communities. Pathetic!

I am from New Zealand, we have natural disasters, especially earthquakes, our recovery process is not perfect, but I am truly disturbed by what your government is doing and not doing, I truly believe that they want all those minerals in the land and don't want the problem of people fighting to stay on it. I beg all those poor people who have been affected if they possibly can to stay on your land, it will be hard, make believe you are pioneers, do what your undefeatable ancestors did and literally HOLD YOUR GROUND! My heart goes out to you all, there is alot of suffering going on all over the world, we are all in this together, no matter how hard it is, remember that you are all true heroes.

Afghan war Vet here. When we invaded Marjah it was the biggest helicopter Insert since Vietnam... I know for a fact just one battalion of Marines from Lejuene only a few hours away would go in there and save lives and do it passionately and gladly and be willing to give their own lives to save others. I've seen it first hand. The reasons the Feds wont let that happen or let civilians come in in help is because it keeps them from laundering money through crisis, makes them look absolutely horrible, will show the people the truth about whats going on, and takes away control of the situation.

I am writing from Germany. And what wonder .... we face exactly the same problems. There was a devastating flooding in the middle of our country 2 years ago. The minister in charge didn´t care and flew into holiday. The local people helped each other and for a whole week nobody official showed up. Big words then, photos and promises. Still today, 2 years later, the promised help has not arrived. But the Ministerpresident got a medal for her good work .... !!!

Its been absolutely crazy. Ive lived in Asheville my whole life. And the stuff im seeing is scary. But ill say this, its been the good ol boys that got our roads back up, not Fema and not our government.
