Shutter sound is to notify people you're taking a photo since unwarranted photos of people is not allowed. It has an added benefit of women's safety but generally it's just women's safety as in someone taking a photo of her unknowingly because they think she's pretty. Korea is fairly safe and unlike Japan, upskirt shots are pretty rare. Could be a combo of shutter sounds plus wearing short skirts with just underwear without some kind of safety shorts underneath is rare.

Remember, in Korea, people own the right to their face in private and in public. If someone takes a photo and posts it somewhere and your face appears and you didn't give consent, you can sue if you want to.
So if you visit Korea, remember to blur out every stranger's face in photos you post if their full face is shown, and also get permission to post from any Korean friends who may be in the photo.

When I visited Korea my shutter sound automatically turned on even on silent mode and I couldn't get it off. So I guess it's not only for phones you buy overthere but also android phones

To turn off camera shutter sound put your phone in silent mode i guess it's necessary when you want to take pictures secretly

I got my phone second handed from the US and people usually use my phone to take group pics and the shutter is always off. One time I had a friend ask me to take a pics of her with her phone and her shutter was on. I kid you not I jumped due to the loud sound. It's not just clicking sound, but the sound is so unnecessarily loud 😂😂

i-Phones are much cheaper in S Korea than in the UK. I bought my phone in S Korea....but I was there a lot ofc🙊💜

From experience I took Korean phone to Australia and got an Australian sim card and then my network was like "Hey do you wanna turn off your camera shutter?" And i was like.... no, I'm too used to it. Lol
Once I returned to Korea and put my KT Olleh sim back in, the network was like "we've turned your shutter sound back on because kfjwnaj..."
This was in 2019. :)

You can order phones from abroad to be shipped to you in Korea that don’t have the shutter noise. Not sure how expensive it is though
