Growing Squash vertical has been something that has interested me for some time. This year I decided to try it out. See how I get the stem to grow up and not out and the benefits of growing them vertically.

I’ve done this for years, but I only thin the leaves and completely remove the ones under the squash blossoms . I also spray every time I cut with a peppermint spray to cover the pheromones that call to the squash bugs like a dinner bell. Good luck

I love growing vertical but I only cut the leaves below the flowers so the large leaves can shade the tender flowers plus the plants need top leaves for photosynthesis. I hope this turned out well for you in the end.

I'd only cut the leaves below the blooms. The ones above feed the blooms and provide shade for the flowers.

Im wondering that you are cutting too many leaves off. The plant needs a leaf to absorb the light for photosynthesis. Cutting off the leaf that feeds the flower light may be stunting it from development female flowers.

What were the results did you receive more from the ones you grew vertically or the plants you left alone and just let go?

The blossoms drop off because the plant has to redirect it's energy from developing fruit to producing more leaves to provide energy for the fruit development, when you remove too many leaves it can't support the fruits development, think of the leaves as the solar panels of the plant and don't remove too many.

Fingers crossed for you! I'm sure it will work out beautifully and you'll be squashed out! Lol
