Greger is citing a survey conducted in 1948 and 1949, a few years after WW2 where Okinawa incurred a lot of casualties and destruction. When you look at studies conducted earlier before WW2, Okinawans ate a lot of goat, pork and fish particularly during their festivals of which they had over 120 festivals days a year So Greger is looking at data from a period post WW2 when their diets didn't necessarily reflect what they historically ate. Additionally in 1949, there were no centenarians. A Japanese study on longevity conducted on centenarians conducted in the 1970';s and published in 1992 showed that Okinawans ate eight times the meat as other elderly populations in Japan. Not to mention they cooked a lot with lard from Agu pigs.

The old people in okinawa have already changed their diet since 1949. They reduced their sweet potato and increased rice, switched from lard to cooking oil and increased seafood and pork. There are studies that say old people need more protein than younger people so maybe increasing their protein has helped the old people in okinawa.

Most traditional diets use lots of wild plants like purslane, knotweed (itadori), etc. In japan, wild plants are called sansai and includes kogomi (ostrich fern), zenmai (royal fern), etc. Some sansai are now cultivated.

Could it be that because of the generations before, Okinawans are healthy today? The generation which ate loads of meat products.

Also, saying eat Beans just as a bean is misleading. They eat fermented beans...

Haha, its not the antioxidants theyre getting from their diet, its the Fat theyre gettimg from their bodies which is stored and released. They are probably really metabolically flexible too unlike you or I.

Why do you think they restrict calories? The original supplies were short back whenever this study was undertaken. Maybe its jist because dadadaa, they get the rest of those calories from body fat!

You typically cant eat like this because dadadaaa, you dont just eat like that. You will always stray every day unless youre not in a modern world of temptation. Sorry, hard luck.
