Installing A Single Door Access Control System

Today, Guardian Safe & Lock installed a single door access control system for a commercial customer here in Tomball, Tx. Brandon Gonzalez and Andrew Turner received an extra hand from Uriah Ortiz to complete the installation.

The entire access control system is comprised of an electric door strike as well as a keypad and dedicated power supply in their backroom, all manufactured by Allegion. The process included mounting both the keypad and electric door strike onto a single exterior door, as well as running wire through the ceiling of the building and down the frame to supply power to allow the single door access control system to function.

This access control installation can easily be integrated in the future into a larger access control system, but for now, it ensures that employees have easy access into and out of the building without the hassle of assigning keys to everyone or having those keys become lost over time.

Hey guys, your video was amazing. I was wondering about that tool you used (with the magnet) that you were able to use to get the cable to their specific spots on the door. Can you provide more details on that?

How do you decide when to add a strike, VS electrify the crash bar?

Does it just act as a switch? Where you bring your 12v or 24v to the key pad then bring (for lack of a better term) a Switch leg from the key pad to the electric strike? And wire the key pad as normally closed?

Is it best practice to have all the connections go to the outdoor (public) side? If I pull off the keypad outside, I activate the lock by shorting out some wires.

Love watching these install videos. I have to do my installs and service in the brutal Canadian cold, it must be nice to work in warm weather all year round!
Thanks for sharing, GSL team.

Fun watching! Wearing masks while working, especially in Houston heat, ain't fun.
I need to take class on low voltage. I was signed up with Flake, till Covid cancelled. I'll be there next year. Thanks

With the keypad and door lock on the door. What size of wire and how many wires do you use? From what I'm seeing 6 wires on the keypad the most and 2 wires on the power for the lock. Is this correct?

probably won't ever be a fan of these types of systems that can be unlocked in 30 seconds with a screwdriver and a jumper, although i understand that these types of systems are not intended to be security devices
