There's something so refreshing and therapeutic about when a woman is singing a break up song, instead of crying or just lying down and reminiscing, she's spinning, headbanging, whipping her hair and shouting at the top of her lungs about her resentment towards him. I like it a lot

You can actually feel her ANGER. And that's why we love it.

Jagged little pill was one of the those rare 90s records that crushed cover to cover. The whole thing was epic, no skipping tracks. People don't realize how big this woman was. She's an icon

As someone who was a radio DJ at the time this song hit the charts, I can't begin to tell you the shockwaves that this whole album sent through the music community. Music directors across the continent were being driven insane. They didn't know how to categorize it. It is the enduing legacy of Alanis Morrissette, that no one talks about. She really changed the face of music permanently, because she wasn't pigeon holed as a rock star or a pop star or whatever. This album was controversial because it was raw, it was emotional. It was full of energy and vibrant. But it had these cute pop songs you could sing along with, like Ironic. Then there was this raw, naked energy like You Oughta Know. And it was making music directors crazy because they didn't know how to define this 25 year old woman from Canada. Good on ya, Alanis!

Alanis writes the greatest scorched earth break-up song in history and then films the video in Death Valley. I miss the 90s so, so much.

“Everytime I scratch my nails down someone else’s back, I hope you feel it” exactly 😅😊

"Every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back, I hope you feel it" is such a BRUTAL line and gives me chills every single time. For me it's the final KO punch of this great song. I didn't understand it when I was younger, but 20 years later it hits different.

“I’ll tell you the kind of person [Alanis] is. When my sister Sharon was dying [of] cancer, Alanis was living in Toronto, and my sister was in Detroit. She actually drove to Detroit with her guitar and sat with my sister playing songs and singing with my sister in the hospital. That’s the kind of human being she is. I’ve never had anything bad to say about her. She’s lovely.”

Does she know how you told me you'd hold me until you died? Until you died?? BUT YOU'RE STILL ALIVE.

So bitter. So fucking good.

I'm ashamed that it took someone's karaoke cover for me to remember this song existed. I won't fault Gabbie for having good taste in *other* people's music lol

Proof the 90's fucking rocked... this "POP" song goes harder than way too many "rock songs" from his day and age. She felt that shit!!! RIP Taylor

Alanis must've had a fire in her when she wrote this. Could you imagine singing this for the first time to get the message to him? Wow!

Now she is happy with her husband and children. Time heals things. Keep on surviving all the heartbroken people out there.

I just noticed after all these years, She is carrying her baggage around in this video. Literally! Who ever produced this video, did a great job!

"But you're still alive" is an observation you generally do not want your ex to be making.
