The Official Trailer for The Man Who Knew Infinity – in cinemas April 8 – directed by Matthew Brown and starring Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons, Devika Bhise, Stephen Fry and Toby Jones.

Colonial India, 1913. Srinivasa Ramanujan (Dev Patel) is a 25-year-old shipping clerk and self-taught genius, who failed out of college due to his near-obsessive, solitary study of mathematics. Determined to pursue his passion despite rejection and derision from his peers, Ramanujan writes a letter to G. H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons), an eminent British mathematics professor at Trinity College, Cambridge. Hardy recognises the originality and brilliance of Ramanujan’s raw talent and despite the scepticism of his colleagues, undertakes bringing him to Cambridge so that his theories can be explored.

After watching this wonderful movie i feel that Prof. Hardy is really a great man. There is no doubt Ramanujan is a genius but in those era giving due credit to Ramanujan and supporting him to the extent of making fellow of Royal Society; Hats off to Prof. Hardy. I think there are very few teachers like him in the modern era.

With no formal education in mathematics, Ramanujan revolutionized several branches of maths and was considered the same level of genius as Newton and Gauss. Unfortunately the world lost this great genius too early at the age of 32.

I am reminded of what Prof.Michio Kaku said about Ramanjum
"Srinivasa Ramanujan was the strangest man in all of mathematics, probably in the entire history of science. He has been compared to a bursting supernova, illuminating the darkest, most profound corners of mathematics, before being tragically struck down by tuberculosis at the age of 33... Working in total isolation from the main currents of his field, he was able to rederive 100 years’ worth of Western mathematics on his own. The tragedy of his life is that much of his work was wasted rediscovering known mathematics. "..that really takes 2+ lifetimes for a man to achieve.

By the next 200 years, he might be regarded as the greatest mathematician of all times considering much of his work is still yet to be proven,

Indians have always been good at mathematics. Even the Pythagoras theorem and Algebra (it was known as 'beej ganit') were first discovered by the Indian mathematicians and scientists. It's sad that they hardly get any credit. This film is a refreshing change. Looking forward!

Ramanujan is the greatest genius who ever walked the earth....Its
difficult to even fathom how a human being in flesh and blood could
perform such immense mathematical calculations as Ramanujan....he
actually discovered all the mathematical accomplishments of modern maths
and way beyond all by are accounts of him performing
unbelievable mathematical calculations in just minutes which would take
even modern computers days to perform....

This movie is based on a real life story of an Indian Mathematician - Srinivasa Ramanujan. He was also a Genius and a Human Calculator (Very few people who are blessed with amazing Mathematical capabilties who can do complex mathematical calculations of many digits in their head).

Shrinevasa Ramanujan is CERTAINLY the greatest mathematical genius who ever lived or likely to live. Those who worked with him rated all the mathematicians who contributed to the advancement of mathematics and couldn't go beyond 80% for the very best of them, but for Shrinivasa Ramanujan they gave him 100%, one of them even proposed 120%. Think of that.
