The new interior is the most luxurious to have been designed for a Volvo, taking its inspiration from the country of Volvo's birth, Sweden, which has a global reputation for integrating the latest technology with design that is clean, beautiful and crafted from the finest materials.

"The most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system," said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design of Volvo Cars. This system is virtually button free and represents an entirely new way for drivers to control their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services. It also helps create an interior that is modern, spacious and uncluttered.

The new XC90's interior combines materials such as soft leather and wood with handcrafted details including a gear lever made of crystal glass from Orrefors, the famous Swedish glass maker, and diamond-cut controls for the start/stop button and volume control.

The new XC90 offers innovatively designed seats that also free up interior space for passengers both in the second and third seat rows, helping to make the new XC90 a genuine 7-seater. The standard Comfort seats are available with intuitive, smooth power operation, including adjustable side bolsters, seat cushion extension, multi-directional lumbar support and vertical adjustment of the headrests. Three settings can be stored in the memory. Ventilation and massage functions are optional.
The all-new, optional Contour seat has been designed to offer excellent side support all the way from the shoulders to the thighs.
The all-new Volvo XC90 can be specified with a four-zone climate system with individual settings for the occupants in the front seats and in the second row. A separate air-conditioning unit for the third row is standard or optional depending on the market.

Hopefully this design doesn't get drag out like the previous gen XC90. Other than that the interior is breathtaking.

This is world class design. Yes, it's priced the same as BMW, but that's intentional - they mean to compete at that price level and set the quality to match. Volvo always gives you bang AND safety for the buck. Volvo is a rock-solid quality brand and I hope they do well.

I really like Volvo.  I don't own but but drove a new model and it was fantastic.  I feel they are much better made than BMW & Audi (I own a 2015 Audi).  Audi & BMW are always cutting corners and charging a premium for name.  Its nice to see Volvo coming back with this and give BMW & Audi a run for its money.

I don't understand why a Volvo can't be expensive when it's competitors isn't much better. Sure the quality isn't entierly up there but other than that a Volvo is just as good or better in most other areas so why not? And with this car I say Volvo finally done it for real. They are now offically premium, or at least have their first fully premium model to fit in the line.

I'd call this the first "real" premium Volvo.

I prefere Volvo interior over bmw and benz in terms of quality and useability.

It's about time that Volvo is redesigning its XC90.  This interior definitely looks good...for a Volvo.  But, just like modern decor, it feels emotionless and cold, like Audi exteriors.  Hopefully the exterior will be better executed.

I think Volvo just dug their own grave coming out with this new xc90

Everyone has actually stolen BMW's angled/driver focused dashboard and cluster layout as of late. It was a trademark BMW design and was something that was special to their cars. It first showed up on the iconic E21/E30 3 series in the late 70s/80s and carried all the way to the F30 3-series.
I see it here in this car(big time), along with the typical BMW/Audi cluster layout, BMW style joystick shifter, HUD design, etc...but that's about it.
Kia/Hyundai are the biggest offenders of this though, their interiors(and exteriors for that matter) are literal BMW and Audi ripoffs. The new Genesis, Sonata, Cadenza, K900 and the interior of the Optima are the most recent examples of the copying. There is no vision with those companies as far as I am concerned. They're nothing more than copied and watered down versions of BMW and Audi design. If you know cars, it's plain as day, but most people don't so they just say that the Audi or BMW interior/exterior design is just like their insert Hyundai/KIA/ etc, when it is absolutely the complete opposite.

if i had to buy a car for my self i would buy some type of Lexus, but for my wife who drives my child, i would buy a Volvo without a second thought. i pick the Lexus just because it feels somewhat sporty.

Looks so cold makes me freeze.  I'll stick to my old Range Rover.

Looks nothing like an Audi, or an bmw. Volvo always had its own style. And it could easily be comparable with german cars in Terms of quality. But safety, nothing beats volvo.
