I have this set and love it a lot. I just finished reading Volumes 1-3 and am moving into Vol. 4. It's an incredible work of literature and history.

I could've watched you slowly go through these for an hour. This is great and pushed me to purchase the collection. Thank you!

I read volume 1 of this version cover to cover; the letters on the binding faded out completely after doing so. Amazing read if you are up for it, and know what it is about. It is *not* about the Republic, Caesar, Augustus, Pompey, Claudius, Nero, etc etc etc. The narrative really starts after AD 100-200; the emperors and stories we hear much less about.

I got the boxset on sale from Indigo and man was it worth it! Still making my way through the first volume and studying classics and history now! Going to read it more during the summer

thanks for the review, I had them on my buy list and since they are expensive this video is really handy to check and see what you can expect.

Gonna ask my wife for this for my birthday. It looks very stylish.

What was the song you used in the video? I feel like it would be great in the background while reading these books

I own two copies of the Penguin version, and for a paperback it feels nice. The book is startling as it details the secret language, myths that relate to earlier religious systems (an internal system). Graves gives the impression of someone who has received tuition in a mystical system, as he seems to be referring to things that are quite extraordinary.

I'm so jealous. I ended up buying the first volume a while ago becasue I've also always wanted to read this series but couldn't bring myself to buy a whole boxset without trying it first. :)

Thank you for the great review. Would you pick this set over Folio Society? I can't seem to decide.

I know from your other videos that you own the Folio Society edition, but I would like to recommend the Everyman's Library edition of War and Peace, which is similarly in a three-volume boxed set of outstanding quality.

Very nice addition to your library Renata! I have the Great Books of The Western World editions of this.

If you like nice books on Greek/Roman history, you might also like the Landmark series (Thucydides, Xenophon, Herodotus, Arrian, Caesar); even the paperbacks of them are nice. Also there are the 3 Penguin special editions by translator Robert Fagles (Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid). I actually prefer the PB cover-designs of this latter group.

Why is always printed in Germany? It really feels like it.... Has our country some kinds of strange instruments with which you can print faster and better? The only difference I could name with my almost nonexistent experiences are the thicker pages.
