Ghosts are an important and integral part of the folklore of the socio-cultural fabric of the geographical and ethno-linguistic region of Bengal. Fairy tales, both old and new, often use the concept of ghosts. References to ghosts are often found in modern-day Bengali literature, cinema, radio and television media. There are also alleged haunted sites in the region. The common word for ghosts in Bengali is bhoot or bhut (Bengali: ভূত). This word has an alternative meaning: 'past' in Bengali. Also, the word Pret (derived from Sanskrit 'Preta') is used in Bengali to mean ghost. In Bengal, ghosts are believed to be the unsatisfied spirits of human beings who cannot find peace after death or the souls of people who died in unnatural or abnormal circumstances like murders, suicides or accidents. Non-human animals can also turn into ghosts after their death. But they are often associated with good luck and wealth in Bengal.

As someone who grew up watching Thakumar Jhuli and is now a devoted horror fan, I can't be more thankful to Devyanshu bhaiya for this representation. Bengali literature and stories need more exposure and this video made me feel waves of nostalgia

Edit: looks like I summoned the Thakumar Jhuli fandom! ❤

Sankhachurni is commonly called Sakhchunni in bengali... Being a bengali our childhood is filled with the stories of Sakhchunni, Daini, Petni, Jokkho, Bromhodoittyo, Pencho Pechi, Sknondokata and all. And our thakuma, dida (s) used to tell these during power cut..

Hello, I'm a Bangali and I would like to rectify you about one thing. Nishi calls its victims 3 times, not twice. It is a very vital thing we were taught even as kids that if we hear our names being called, we should always wait for a 4th time. If it is only 3 times then we should not respond to it. We Bangalis follow this rule almost religiously. Other than that, very good effort 👍🏻 please keep making such videos.

He described 'Sankhachurnis' story from really popular "Thakumar Jhuli"s one of the most popular story "Shakchunnir kahini"..The story he told was 90% similar to that and it's still popular as a meme or a Spooky story for kids to watch.

Aleya is also called bhulo which means they can make you lost your way. My grandfather told me about this. In his days when people go out at night they saw many strange lights trying to guide them but instead it made them lost their way. In countryside and villages the roads were dark and if you see plenty of lights going to a direction together it means “bhulo der biye jachhe” which translates to it's bhulo ghost's wedding.

Being a Bengali I can certainly say that our ghosts are also as fond of food(especially maach) as an alive Bengali😂😂😂. Even after becoming dead their appetite for Maach and other Bengali delicacies like Rosogolla never dies. 😊😊😊

Kanawala Bhut is one of the Bengali ghosts which helps to forget the address of the home and make the man to forget about his home's address. My grandmother had experienced this when she was in Bangladesh. She had gone for an evening walk but when she was coming back to her home she was not able to find her home . She was 20 years old then . This incident really gives me chills till now.

As a bangali person I really enjoy the series. Some time it was nostalgic moment, just like purani din me dadi se sunahua kahani.

My great grandmother has witnessed "Mecho Bhoot"
Whenever she used to cook fish, a hand used to come close to her kitchen's window and ask for a fish in a nasal voice.
I enjoy listening these folklore and trust me it's the true story
They don't harm anyone.

I remember that when i was small during the time of Kalbaisakhi (April-May) we had a lot of power cuts. Then we used to lit candles and hericane (Bengali people would know) and my grandfather used to tell me ghost stories of sakchunni; skondokata; mecho bhut and others. Those days❤❤

I just love my bengali ghosts. ❤️ Brought up listening to the stories of petni, sakchunni, brahmadaitta, kondhokata, mamdo and many more. They don't seem so much fierce or dangerous.
