Grimm fact about Chernobyl: The radiation has spread even to Ireland, affecting the dairy production there and contaminating a lot of milk. Mexico learned about all that milk that was literally about to be littered and decided it was a good idea to import all that cheap waste milk and give it to the people. Now there's the CONASUPO milk disaster, a crime against the people of Mexico.
Side note: Brasil and Argentina learned about that contaminated milk and warned Mexico against importing it.

A bit more info on the Tenerife airport disaster as an airplane nerd myself: the reason the klm pilot took off is because he said that he was ready to take off, the atc said, ok, stay there, I’ll clear you, be advised, at the same time, the pan am pilot said, we’re still taxiing down the runway, and because everyone was using the same radio frequency, all the klm pilot heard was ok, so they decided to take off, the first officer showed some concern, but the pilot took off anyway

An honorable mention I think: The Halifax explosion. I believe two ships collided, one contains hundreds of tons of explosive and flammable materials used for war. This happened at Halifax Harbor in Nova Scotia. Many people were killed, severely injured, and left homeless. Also many resources for war and fighting were destroyed as this happened around the time when WW1 was happening

Fun fact that im sure many people know (Im being serious): what made the Titanic situation especially bad was that there were SEVERAL man made issues that led up to the sinking and people dying: the keys for the binoculars the scout was meant to use were all the way back in the place the Titanic left from, which wouldve helped the Ships scout see the iceberg quicker, and there were deliberately less lifeboats than needed. Why? Because of the ultimate issue that led to the tragedy: pride and arrogance. That belief that the Titanic was unsinkable led to a few of the issues that led to the iceberg sinking. That and no one reading the book written prior where a ship called the Titan was touted to be unsinkable... only to sink on its maiden voyage.

Ironic. And those were just a few of the issues

I havent watched this channel at all, seems really good at mixing games with history or disasters. Their videos in the pass looks promising too, but overall, this is probably aimed to a larger audience. He aimed to make people laugh in the past, then now he aims to teach children about history. I really had fun writing this, i really wish to do this in other videos. 10/10 video, would watch other vids from him

You should’ve make a part 2 with:

-The New London School Explosion
-JAL 123
-Texas City Disaster
-Sinking Of Wilhelm Gustloff

To all that watching this 10 years from now, I could say that this is one of the greatest telling of history in a Minecraft video

9:20 - Safety protocol violations weren't the only issue in this event, the reactor itself was basically built with bare minimum requirements, and ontop of that - reactor's core had a flaw which lead to a dangerous steam generation feedback loop.
Although event was catastrophic - it gave alot of crucial scientific data that otherwise wouldnt be possible given overall effects of it around the world.

10:02 - the "20000 years" number is Plutonium-239's decaying period (a.k.a half-life) and its just a shy over 24000 years, however - it is not the main cause of radiation hazards in Chernobyl as people might think, but Cesium-137 thats spreaded wide around the zone in a form of dust, and its half-life is only 30-ish years, and from practical standpoints - after just about 10 decay periods (or roughly ~300 years) - Cesium should decay to reasonable levels, means after 300 years - it has a chance to be habitable again, also ontop of that - wildlife is thriving in there with little to no effects whatsoever.

4:35 Not so fun fact: if they didn't try to steer away from the iceberg, the titanic would've sunk more slowly or never sunk at all

Warning bit of a long comment. Its a story about my trips to Chernobyl.

Ive gone to Chernobyl a couple of times and its the most eerie and sad places ive ever gone to. And thats saying a lot ive gone to Hashima island, Fukushima, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Auschwitz. When i went there you are recommended to wear a hazmat suit but its not mandatory but any clothes/ items you have on you need to be disposed of as soon as you leave the zone. I went all through the exclusion zone i when through Pripyat, the Red Forest and even went into the powerplant which was so cool. Its weird to think that Nuclear Powerplants can use computers so weak in power that all of the computers in the control room are weaker in power to most vintage computers. I even got the privilege to go into Reactor 4's control room and you have to wear a hazmat in there. As soon as i entered my Geiger counter started going haywire. The Scam button which was the button that made history by causing the control rods the jam was gone but i could just feel the weight and history in that room. The other most radioactive place i went was the Hospital basement that still has all the contaminated firefighter gear my Geiger counter had a aneurism when i entered there. I also went to the Claw of Death again the Geiger counter had a seizure. I could go on and on the Ferries wheel, Scrap/Train yards and The Red Forest all made my Geiger counter go off the rails but in Chernobyl your Geiger counter is never quite you will always hear it ticking away just showing how radioactive it still is and that the 20 000 years of radiation making it uninhabitable is true and you can see it with your own eyes and ears. I also got to go to Chernobyl-2 which is a military base/town with giant radars and sensory arrays to detect missiles classic cold war stuff it even filled with communist propaganda to complete the soviet aesthetic.

I had a picture book filled of photos from around Pripyat and Chernobyl before the disaster and man does 30 years do something to a place. My guide was a former resident of Pripyat his father was a firefighter and liquidator he passed away due to radiation poisoning his older brother actually worked in Reactor number 2 and 3 he also helped in clean up efforts and died due to radiation sickness due to his liquidator work. His Older Sister was a nurse at the Pripyat hospital and also died curing sick firefighters after getting radiation sickness from them.
My Guide showed me the in's and out of Chernobyl and Pripyat he showed my his old primary and high schools he showed me the Azure pool the Amusement park the Stadium, the Hospital he even showed me his family's apartment and his friends apartments. He told me that most of his friends and love ones are either dead or dying of cancer due to the disaster. And he told me the magnitude of the disaster and how it ripped lives apart. You really cant get a feel of scale for how big it is until a survivor tells you first hand what happened. Its a giant city but its a ghost town and you think 30 years ago this place was bustling with life but within 48 hours of something it became a ghost town. Its super eerie being there

I took a ton of photos of the place me and my Guide became pretty good friends and i even learnt Ukrainian just so we could speak 50% Ukrainian and 50% English. Chernobyl and Pripyat are still one of my favorite places to visit but due to Russia invading Ukraine i have not been able to visit my Friend of go to Ukraine for any matter of a sort. As soon as that Wars over im going to visit him since the last time i say him face to face was in late 2021 in his house in Slavutych which was a town made to house the citizens of Chernobyl and Pripyat after the disaster. I heard it has not been damaged much and since the last time i called him he seemed to be doing pretty well but i pray it stays that way.

I remember seeing the Tenerife Airport disaster on a show called Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel. I remember some of the details very clearly, one of the crew in the cockpit was coming back from teaching pilots of the airline by which he was employed, and had only heard "Okay" from the tower on the radio followed by about 3-4 seconds of static as the taxiing plane sent a transmission while the tower was still talking. The returning cockpit crewman fell back on flight sim habits and took the okay as a go-ahead to begin takeoff, and proceeded to push the throttles to takeoff despite the protests of the pilot _and_ copilot, which were quickly quelled by a glare from the returning crewman.

Fun Fact: If the Titanic had hit the iceberg head-on, it likely wouldn't have sunk. The ship's design featured watertight compartments that could keep it afloat even if some were breached. A head-on collision would have caused more localized damage to the bow, preventing multiple compartments from flooding. This would have reduced the amount of water entering the ship, possibly allowing the Titanic to stay afloat and avoid the catastrophic sinking that occurred when it struck the iceberg at an angle. Also The MV Wilhelm Gustloff was a German military transport ship that sank on January 30, 1945, after being torpedoed by the Soviet submarine S-13 in the Baltic Sea during the final months of World War II. The ship was overcrowded with around 9, 400 passengers, including civilians, soldiers, and refugees fleeing the Soviet advance in East Prussia.

After being struck by three torpedoes, the Gustloff sank within 45 minutes in freezing waters. Over 9, 000 people perished, making it the deadliest maritime disaster in history. Contributing factors included overcrowding, inadequate lifeboats, and the frigid temperature of the sea, which led to rapid hypothermia for those who ended up in the water. Only around 1, 200-1, 300 survivors were rescued. The sinking remains a largely overlooked tragedy, overshadowed by other events of World War II.

Fun fact: The design of the titanic was made to DOUBLE the capacity of lifeboats, but the leader of Harlaad and wolf (the company who made the titanic) wanted to keep the same number of lifeboats as every other boat, because they didn’t want to obscure the view of the passengers from the upper deck.
