The Kawa-1 discovery offshore Guyana was announced by operator CGX Energy at the end of January 2022. The Kawa-1 well, drilled in the Corentyne block, encountered 54 metres of hydrocarbon reservoir.

Here we give a brief overview of the region and the discovery, taking information from TROVE Latin America North.

We also give an introduction to the latest licensing round in Trinidad and Tobago. The delayed 2021 round focusses on deepwater blocks.

TROVE Latin America North contains details of all offshore oil and gas fields and discoveries from Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana. With information on over 400 assets, this is the most comprehensive technical subsurface database for the region. We have several other TROVE databases ensuring complete offshore coverage of the American continent, along with the conjugate margin (entirety of West Africa).
