If you want some extra tastiness, you can throw a D7 between the Am and G as a passing chord, or even spicier a Ab7 (tritone substitution)

I think it scoots nicely around the Minor Blues and Mixolydian♭6 scales. Really nicee

Play "That's the Way of the World" by Earth Wind & Fire to hear a close example to this progression used masterfully.

"Best Part" by H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar uses this exact chord progression. Great tune.

You can also spice it up more by adding a passing Ab7 chord to move from Am to Gmaj7 (very jazzy sound). Jacob Collier performed this song with Daniel Caesar live and added in a lot of interesting chords too

My ears were not made for this, no idea why not but there you go. I always think it's a minor thing but I love chords from Bb minor.

Thanks. Wonderful to get meaningful lyrical improvising from. Adding a few choice ii-V subs to spice things up with is quite easy to do with any of the maj7 chords.

I love listening and learning from your videos!
By the way, thank you for the partial earworm triggered by the Am7 (I think) that's been gnawing at my brain for two days until finally the sweet relief of connecting dots with Zero 7's "Home".
Beautiful - thanks for what you do!

This is nice. I started with this and expanded it a bit with an altered dominant at the end to turn-back to the first bar. Nice 8 bar loop for down-tempo Neo-Soul kind of soloing

I think I might well give this a shot on my next composition!

I think a big part of why this hits so hard is because the last two chords going back to the first one function almost like a IV iv I progression

I KNEW IT WAS GONNA BE THIS… I use this progression all the time.

The major I to a minor v is just HEARTMELTING.

As soon as you know the progression you start seeing it EVERYWHERE. (For good reason) def one of the all time classics.

(Misty is another STELLAR song using this progression)

I was expecting a standard 2651 but I am soooo happy to be proven wrong. These chords are so simple yet so delicious
