Professor Phil Scraton, talks about his work on the Hillsborough campaign. For over three decades, he has worked alongside bereaved families and survivors of Hillsborough.

His initial research critiqued the Taylor inquiry, media coverage, and police insensitivity, while his later work exposed the systematic review and alteration of police statements. Phil headed the research of the Hillsborough Independent Panel and was the primary author of its 2012 report, leading to the original inquest verdicts being quashed.

Watching this today, on the 36th anniversary, in memory of the 97. I watch, read listen to anything Hillsborough related around the anniversary every year to show that the 97 are not, and never will be, forgotten. I feel the need to relive it for them every year, to hear of the pain endured by everyone affected by Hillsborough to stand in solidarity with the victims and their family and friends. Justice may not have come fully, but the 97 have been kept alive by those fighting for them. And what a fight they’ve fought ❤

This is arguably the best piece of academic research to come out of the North West. When the Hillsborough law is passed, Phil & Edge Hill will have written themselves into history as protectors of the British people.

Absolutely outrageous cover- up. I feel tremendous heartache for the families of the deceased. The scale of deception by those responsible is a disgrace! But, worse than that, was the heinous way the families were treated like criminals. The fact that it took 24 years for the truth to come out is appalling. God bless you Professor Scraton for your tenacity in pursuing the truth.
