The Hyundai Tucson has gotten a significant update for 2022. We're behind the wheel of the top end trim in Canada, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Hybrid AWD.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. That's the motto for this episode of TestDrive Spotlight as we take a deep dive on the new Hyundai Tucson. This radical update gives us a look at Hyundai's Parametric Dynamics, a design element that is somewhat futuristic in it's sharp lines and jewel-like surfaces. Our full tour and review on this compact crossover goes over everything potential buyers will want to know, including the MSRPs in Canada and the United States. We discuss the exterior features such as the LED headlights, integrated LED daytime running lights, full suite of enhanced safety technology, remote parking feature, keyless entry, remote starter, and the details about the hybrid system.

We jump inside the updated interior to talk about the dual 10.25" infotainment screens, the soft-touch heating controls, minimalistic interior layout, and the comfort of the front seats. Hyundai says some features are new for the Tucson including the hood-less full digital gauge cluster, and a multi-airflow vent system. We discuss the interior feel and features along with some of the tech not offered on this trim in the US that must be added as an option, like the auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. Interior space is good on this 2022 Hyundai Tucson, as the North American market gets a long wheelbase version of this crossover.

We take the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Hybrid on a real-world road test to talk about how this crossover is as a daily driver, including our independent fuel economy testing, how it compares to other hybrids we've driven recently along with some of the popular crossovers we've tested. We talk about how the ride, drive, and overall experience is for buyers, and some of the reasons you'd be interested in looking at this model.

I also wanted to add to my previous comment, and I am quite certain that you know this, Hyundai has mostly German engineers and French designers working for them now, so that is why the quality and performance, along with signature design has taken this company to the lead in many respects. Once again, Thanks for your honest and comprehensive review of this vehicle.

Thanks for the review. How would you compare this Tuscon Hybrid version to Mazda CX-5 (say Signature) in terms of interior, driving experience/performance, and overall what would you prefer/recommend? Thanks

What colour were you driving? Amazon grey?

They seem to be taking a page from Lexus with the (literally) edgy design of the rear doors and quarter panels.

I love (and want) this 2022 Tucson Hybrid. Does this have the automatic lift-gate?

The PHEV model has 15% less cargo capacity. Does that mean the cargo floor is higher? How much vertical height is lost as a result?

Thanks for your review, I really enjoyed it! I have a question, I know the tailgate has several height opening options, I'm 6' 2" will I hit my head on it? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I could learn to live with the front end, but all the creases in the sheet metal are just too much.

Thanks for the review but donot you think Turbo and Hybrid works well in the long run?
Rav4 has gained its reliability in hybrid vehicles.
I am confused b/w Rav 4 2021 XSE & Tucson Hybrid 2022

Personally I do not find this vehicle to be " too Out There". It is stylish, and slick. I have owned two of these, a 2016 and a 2019 Ultimate and they are a real pleasure to drive. I am definitely looking to get this Hybrid and my only complaint, because most drivers tailgate in Toronto, is the fact that the turn signal indicators are so low!, other than that, I took it for a test drive, and man this car moves, and it is extremely quiet, but thanks for your review. It is comprehensive and honest.

I'm considering the Ultimate Hybrid. My only complain is having no HUD :(

A proper down to earth review, thank you. Just ordered mine with Hybrid engine in Ultimate spec - lead times are huge here in the UK, have to wait until at least July... that's going to drag :)

I have a 2020 Santa fe luxury model and im thinking of trading it to 2022 Tucson ultimate. You think its a good decision? Gas prices in Canada is way too high now a days. I need your honest feedback. Thanks.

I like the look. It’s almost like Hyundai Stole a page from Kia Sportage’s book with making this size different looking. The problem is it will look outdate first redesign. So many respected auto reviewers have been saying the same thing about this new Tucson many are considering buying it.

I will receive mine in 3 days, I really look forward to it. You are right, the head-up display not present in this version is a low but everything else is better than my 2019 Tucson.

Hi, I know this is late in the game after you posted this video but I was wondering what you thought of the backseat. Asking as someone who is also a bigger guy.
