Carthage really had a chance of winning especially with all the disasters the Roman Army had to face. If that happened, the Roman Empire we know today would never exist. However, because Rome kept trying, even after storms and disasters, it eventually won.

The fact that Rome lost their consul in battle and lost 4 or 5 fleets and had 100k casualties in one disaster. Crazy how Rome didnt surrender

What's even more impressive is that the Romans went from having virtually zero navy to building five separate armadas (and losing four of them, three to storms and one to battle with the Carthaginian Navy) and eventually coming out the victor.
