When I told someone I was getting a ball python, he gave me the sizing up story. He learned a lot that day. My mom said they'll smell. They do not. Dad said they'd attract bugs, and he was correct. They love that heat, I guess.

at "enclosure too big" I literally turned behind me to look at my beardie (cuz the enclosure is beind me) and asked her "is the enclosure too big yoda?" and she looked at me like "i'm trying to bask It's a 190 gallon tank, and she loves it lol

How about talking about how "Reptiles will give you salmonella!" but no one talks about how dirty humans can give their reptiles e. coli. Safe practices go both ways.

We were doing research on where to get Leapord Geckos and we were at a pet store, my parents asked what the enclosure should be like they said it needed like a ten gallon and sand would be a good substrate. I leaned over to my mom and whispered "don't do that"

I'm glad you feel this way about enclosures. I always felt like I COULD live in a cardboard box, but I like my house a lot more. To that end, my last two leopard geckos lived in a 45 breeder (male and female) together forever and it was great.

When I first brought one of my snakes home from a reptile expo I noticed she had stuck shed on the tip of her tail that looked really bad. I figured I should try and help her with it immediately rather than waiting, and as I was dealing with it she climbed right up onto my shoulder. She does better with handling than any other reptile I ever had, just absolutely fearless.

Different reptiles, even in the same species, have different tolerances for handling. Rather than going with some kind of "one size fits all" approach, just learn to recognize when your animals are stressed or irritated and adjust accordingly.

Another myth I hate is "x" doesn't climb. Like I hear this a lot for Hognoeses and Royal Pythons and mine both like to climb every so often. Sure they arent tree boas but the give it a go! Also when people say Royal pythons are like owning a pet rock. Again I take mine out for handling and he never stops moving!

Glad to hear about the 10gal comments and yes, I would enjoy a video about enclosure size misconceptions. Even for my 2-4” Mourning Geckos, 12x12x18 feels small to me because there’s so many of them. I can’t imagine recommending a 10gal for a Beardie.

The "sizing you up" myth is so bad I heard it in multiple languages - polish, german, czech and now english. It's always, without a failure, a "family friend" or "a distand cousin" or a "friend of a friend". The best time I heard it was when I said what sort of snake I was getting (a corn/king/milk hybrid boy) and my friend told me that "at this point he will be big enough to swallow your head whole and he will be just sitting for months slowly eating you until it swallows you whole". I... have no clue where people got this myth from to begin with, but the variations of it do tend to get incredibly stupid.
