L5P 10 Speed checking the transmission fluid level

Since they got rid of the dip stick in 2020, you have to pull the plug out of the side of the transmission while its running and at operating temperature.

Just confirming what has been stated by someone else in the comments, the info in this video is not accurate. The plug on the right side is the fill plug. The plug in the pan has a standpipe and is the oil level check plug, you slightly overfill the trans, then pull that plug in the pan, letting a solid stream of fluid drain and then when it slows to a drip, put the check plug back in and you're done. This is per the GM manual...

That isn't the plug for checking the fill plug. The check plug is the small plug forward on the bottom of the pan. 170F fluid temp and the fluid should drip out. If you have fluid level up to the fill plug it's over full. Spend 20 bucks and get access to the electronic service manuals from GM, and the correct procedures, before telling the YT world bad info.

Thanks, man. Just.got my new Chevrolet Express 3500. Wanted to check all the fluids. No dip stick for transmissions fluid. Ok, your video has helped me to understand, but on event of leaking fluid from transmissions or changing transmissions fluid it's will be nightmare! In my older 2018 GMC Savanna there's dip stick though.

That’s not the plug to remove for my 2021 duramax there is a plug on the bottom portion of the step up on my pan called transmission plug #1 according to this service manual 13188072 for the 10L1000 auto transmission. The plug you removed is my transmission FILL HOLE. I I used that to check my transmission level at temper 167 F my transmission would be over filled. Again these directions are for the 2020 and 2021 I’m not sure about later years.
