Turn basic ingredients into a delicious burger. Experience Matt Hussey's Oklahoma Onion Burgers – sauteed onions, smashed patties, melty cheese, and irresistible flavor in every bite.

Ingredients
2 lbs. 80/20 ground chuck
8 slices of American cheese
8 Potato buns
1 tablespoon salt
2 onions, thinly sliced

Directions
1. Preheat griddle to medium-high heat.

2. Divide the ground chuck into 2 oz portions and shape them into balls.

3. Using a sharp knife or mandolin, thinly slice the onions.

4. Place the meatballs on the preheated griddle and sprinkle a pinch of salt on each.

5. Add a handful of thinly sliced onions on top of the meat.

6. Press each burger with a burger press, holding for 10 seconds each time.

7. After pressing, flip the burgers and onions; then, add a slice of cheese to each.

8. Quickly assemble the burgers by placing the top bun on the patty and the bottom bun on top of that to create a "sandwich." This helps to steam the bun for about 1 minute.

9. Remove the assembled burgers by taking off the bottom bun, sliding the spatula under the patty and onions, placing the bottom bun under the spatula, squeezing the buns together, and then removing the spatula.

10. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious cheeseburger sliders

I'm from western Oklahoma. A good friend of mine worked at Robert's Grill back in the 70's when he was in high school in El Reno, and if you know anything about the history of the " fried onion hamburger " you've probably eaten there. He told me how its really done and tricks. NO MAYO. MUSTARD & PICKLES ONLY!

OH man! Dad used to make these a lot. We never added any condiments cuz you really didn't need to. We make them at 4oz size with salt n pepper. So good and fast on the flat top.

I tried Dukes mayonnaise after hearing you rave about it Matt. Most of the jar went away. I'm back to Best Foods/Hellman's, but I'm glad I tried Dukes.

Here in Australia i just cooked some on the Blackstone. The wife and i liked them with mayonaise for something different. My twelve year old son not so much.

Those look delicious. I recently tried Venison Burgers on my Blackstone for the first time and they turned out amazing.

I just made some, but non traditional. Dusted it with some Blackstone Whiskey Burger and I used pepperjack cheese.

Hey Matt,
Looks fantastic, I will be definitely be giving these a try.
I do smashburgers with onions that I get about 50% caramelized
So they still have texture but a lot of sweetness,
Then top the patty on the bun with the usual produce and they are amazing!
I would like to see a side by side comparison to see how this simple ingredient version
would compare…..
I’m sure, both delicious….maybe I will have to do that…hahahaha

Love thos OK Onion Burgers. Your's looked fantastic. Wish I could find those Martin's potato rolls here in MN. Only a few slect stores have them.
