The first time I saw Oteil was back in the nineties and he was doing this scatting and chordal think. At time I had never heard of a six string bass or heard of Modulus Basses which he was using at the time. He was playing with Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit who I had never heard of either. I was blown away. Reason one was the music and reason two was it was on Mountain Stage in Charleston, West Virginia. As good as he was, it is safe to say that everyone else in that band was equally great. It was a real treat.

Following Oteil's playing since Aquarium Rescue Unit, his sense of harmony is stellar...as well as some ridiculous solos like those on their album 'In a Perfect World'. But what gets me is watching others just 'get it' when something musically amazing happens that provokes an almost involuntary reaction like yours Cody at 0:33...gives me goosebumps!
