Yes you can. I use it in 2023 and it was extremely slow until I cut the housing and put a small heatsink on now it runs netflix completely fine. I also installed a software that closes all background apps

Very useful info especially as I have just dusted down the 1st gen.

I'm still using mine on my 3D Vizio TV. All the Vizio built in apps don't work with the stupid yahoo apps. Lessens learned that you really don't want any tv with built in apps as it will become obsolete. Having a stick will let you always upgrade keeping the same TV. It's always been slow as a Packard bell since I had it. But I did go through and check updates like you did and it has multiple that never installed.

Actually tried a 1st gen a couple years ago & checked the specs, very slow processor speed & ended up crashing it. Now a Gen 2 up until the new Max had the beefiest processor & worked well after you disabled the 15 Amazon proprietary processes which interfered with it greatly.
Many forget but there was a square Gen 2 basically model B which originally had the 4K beat in everything except 1080 was its top resolution & you could disable 55 Amazon proprietary processes.
