Is it worth it? Well if you can afford it and need the extra functionality...then yes its worth it. I speak from experience.

As a long time Sony user and owner of an A7R IV I can tell you that's terrible advice at the end. The higher megapixels make it much, much worse for taking videos, as it has to downsample (or crop) more. This brings a host of issues for video - ranging from longer read-times on the sensor, rolling shutter, overheating issues etc. etc. You want to be as close to native as possible if you want to take high resolution videos - this is why the video-focused A7S series caps resolution at 12mp (4k native). 61mp is just way too much resolution for either the A7R IV or V to be a practical video shooter beyond the odd short video here and there.

Get a camera from the A7R line over the "standard" 7 if you care more about stills than you do about video. Go for the "normal" A7 line if its 50/50 and go for the A7S if you are primarily after video.

You forgot one thing - 61MP sensor in Super 35 mode (APSC) is 26MP: exactly the same as current top Sony APSC camera and more than the rest of them. You can use every, tiny APSC lense without any quality loss. That was huge for me.

I like how you just gave a bias answer at the end. It gives me more confidence in my choices

Me with an a7riii at 42MP and an a7iii that I got from Amazon for less than 1100 on both. Its worth it if you feel you need more bells and whistles to make yourself feel like a better photographer.

I try to work the word 'whilst' into my daily conversation. Love that word!

Dont forget the better lowlight performance coming with lower resolution. Was a major point for me

I love my A7IV! The A7RV is much more of a still photo camera while the A7IV is probably a true hybrid camera, which suits my needs a bit better. The one thing that makes me truly jealous is the new screen. The tilt-out/flip-out screen is just so much better than the simple flip-out screen, which is itself an improvement over the tilt-out-only screen.

that flip and tilt screen can do ANYTHING - its really quite surprising

At a certain point Ive REALLLLY gotta question if its worth it - at least for video resolution. if youre anything like me and you want it to be clean just so you can go overboard with coloring and grain 😂

Have both, with a FX3 as the main video camera, A7R5 is my main photo camera, the A74 is my B camera to both others. Works for me.

Im am amateur. Content creation is my full time job, but not the traditional independent style.
I really really like the A7IV as an upgrade from my A7III.
I’d love that. Will there be an S IV or S V?

I hope the A7v when it comes will have higher res screen and flip tilt as A7Rv

Thanks man I can now be confident when asked to choose between sony 7rv and 7iv. My answer would be canon 600d to save money

Or maybe check out the A6700 which has the A7RV processor and vx30's sensor making it an awesome little camera at $1400
