OxygenOS is dead

If you're one of the former fans out there who thinks #OnePlus has lost its way, chances are the state of its software is what's soured you on the brand. #OxygenOS started out as a clean, minimalist, near-stock version of Android. More recently though, it's become just another variant of ColorOS, the skin made by OnePlus parent brand Oppo.

So will the new OxygenOS 13 change that? Well until recently, chances looked good -- the company made a lot of noise earlier this year about this new UI being developed with design input form Google *and* OnePlus fans. Sounds a lot like the good old days, right?

But as is often the case with OnePlus and software, things aren't quite as clear as they first seem.

The removal of the alert slider is pretty much a nail in the coffin for one plus phones. There aren't any good reasons anymore to buy op devices, especially under the oppofication to colorOS. If I want ColorOS I will get an oppo device which is far superior to the half-baked op we have today. Sad to say, it is time to move on for good.

The Alert Slider and OxygenOS are the only reasons why I've so far bought three generations of OnePlus phones. Not sure, if I'll end up getting a fourth.

I am so infuriated with what OnePlus has been doing in recent years. I've always considered OnePlus the best value Android phone, with great software, good hardware and always priced well. When the new software update cake out and I got it for my OnePlus 9 Pro, I didn't expect too much, but it changed everything. It kept the new font which I had grown accustomed to, but had integrated a new and terrible software skin. App Icons suck, customisation has suffered and OnePlus no longer looks like OnePlus, but Oppo. This is a tragedy, and the only option I have left in the Android Market is now Samsung, which I've tried to avoid. (NOT CONSIDERING IOS)

current phone is 8t and is actually my first OP device. loved the phone from day one, but the update to android 12/colorOS from 11/oxygen caused a whole host of problems overnight including completely breaking my CELL SERVICE (cricket US) ultimately leading me to be forced to roll back manually to 11. Now there are weird quirks like voice to text and android auto not quite working correctly accompanied by a nearly CONSTANT reminder to update to the same version that previously broke my service, which is simply unacceptable. I use my phone for work and the quirks mentioned above are annoying in the line of that work, but at the same time I am extremely hesitant to update at all now for fear of the same thing happening all over again. Definitely will be the last OP device moving forward. Shame too because I had been watching the brand since the FIRST iteration and was sooo excited to get this one because of that.

I started on the One Plus One and my last was the OnePlus 6.
I started to lose interest when the 7 came out without a headphone jack and it's never picked up.
Removal of everything that made them special - including the alert slider (killer feature) and the ever rising cost pushing them outside the limit of what I was ever prepared for any phone was the final nail for me.
There is nothing left about One Plus phones or the company itself that I find appealing.
Nothing phones on the other hand, seem to be the spiritual successor to Oneplus.

I've been using OnePlus for 6 years since it's based on Google, but after the release of OP9, it became the color OS of oppo, so I'm worried about switching to Google Pixel.

This would already be the end of the OnePlus brand itself, because as we know the OS is the main factor in a phone and in this brand, believe me, it was the soul and reason for buying them.

Oxygen OS was the only reason I bought a OnePlus phone. But after the departure of Oxygen Os I don't think I will be recommending it to anyone or buying one for myself.

I owned OPO, OPT and OP 3T. Cyanogenmod in OPO was the best software (in my opinion) in its price point at that time, OOS had much flaws in OPT and I quickly moved to custom ROM. Things changed with OP 3T, were OOS was great. I recently was looking for replacement of my actual phone and I don't wanna have Oneplus anymore. This brand has cut off its roots, which fundaments were great community focused around OP phones and software.

I have an OP6. My first and last oneplus phone as with each iteration it became the villain of its own story. Was a flagship killer to rival the big boys only to become one with the beasts but in the worst ways possible. Removing the alert slider, using cheaper materials (look at the 10 models), the merging with oppo and their OS, the constant delays in updates, the slew of bugs yet to be fixed, the price bumps of each phone. I'm switching the the Asus zenfone 9 when it releases and I'm sticking to it until then.

Still using my OnePlus 7 Pro with OxygenOS 10. Works like a charm. Love this phone a lot.

It's hard to tell OxygenOS and ColorOS. They promised a cleaner experience. ColorOS 13 and OxygenOS 13 even have the same Aquamorphic Design.
