What is the MLS (Multiple Listing Service)? Why should you care?

If you are a Realtor® (whether seasoned or early career), you are generally advised to join the MLS (multiple listing service) straight away.
If you are buying or selling a home, you may just assume your property will show up in the MLS.
But what is it? Apparently, we in the profession have failed to define it accurately and as a result, we are now facing attacks from the bureaucracy in DC who would dismantle the system-this creating not just market havoc and confusion but absolutely harming the public.
I’m a proud member of the MLS and I am proud to serve every neighbor in the zip codes I serve, and want them all to have access to a true free marketplace. Anything less would be unAmerican.
