I’m a project manager, so I’m used to thinking through all the steps from a-to-z. And I used to be a construction manager for big-box retail. (And also been a learning-as-I-go construction guy on my own, and other homes for 25 years) But I gotta tell you, this was one of the most informative, fool-proofing, concise videos on doing my own work for one task I have seen. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together!

Thank you. I was left with 13 or 14 inches from stove top after getting a new one so glad to know it would still be ok to use.

You really need to mention that nearly no OTR microwaves being produced today are guaranteed by the manufacturer to work with cabinets over 14" (in some cases, over 12") without a bump-out kit. Even with external circulation, the manufacturers indicate that the top-front exhaust is still used to cool internal components, and thus cannot be blocked by cabinets. This causes a lot of problems with installing replacement microwaves where builders have built entire subdivisions with 15" cabinets designed for the aesthetic when OTR microwaves were entirely front-venting.

So 15 inches or 17 inches above the stove is ok? Thanks

I am running into the height issue...our current microwave is 15.7 inches high, and we have a tile backsplash. I'm having trouble finding anything in that height to replace our current 14 yr old Fridgidare model. Any suggestions, other than a low profile model?
