Drink from the bowl and spit the vegetables out onto the floor and give the leftovers to the dog to lick the bowl clean...keeps from having to wash the bowl and save on dish liquid....wa- la!!

Is there a purpose behind this etiquette? Like does it prevent messes somehow put do something that is very clearly useful that I'm not aware of? O really never understood the reasoning behind all the rules that high society has around eating, and it always struck me as similar to having yards, which started as a way to show off that you're wealthy enough to waste good farm land.
