It’s so interesting to see how covid has impacted another city in China. I’m in Shanghai and when we first came out of the lockdown I had never seen the city so busy but now that it’s settled down a bit the city is the quietest I’ve ever seen it! Thanks for sharing! 💕

Thanks for sharing your experiences, here in Sydney, the street dinning scene we created during the covid indoor l restrictions. I live near the Rocks and we have an amazing street cafe and dinning setting now. Its a huge hit for locals and visitors alike.

There was a very lively street food culture in Beijing until the government forbid street vendors and bbq outside. 10 years ago Beijing’s streets were full of bbq places offering lamb skewers and cheap beer to be enjoyed on tiny little chairs on the streets. The government wanted to reduce pollution and clean the streets from vendors and that’s why they forced all the food vendors indoors.

Honestly, your video quality is much better than those TV programs!

13 years ago when I moved to Beijing, there was a huge street food scene. Then, the government banned it, and they disappeared. It was so unfortunate!

Though life is inconvenient, take it optimistically. Use this idle and free time as a chance to enjoy things around you, which you neglected before. As a foreigner, Jack speaks Chinese very fluently. Amazing! 加油！👏

Good observation. Cities in the South tend to have more seats outside restaurants because the inside can be more cold especially in winter. Beijing is normally the opposite. I'm not sure it's against authorities to dine in the street, it's likely because the hot weather is just in summer so people probably like to stay inside all year round.
