The shelter is always the best place to start. You can find mixed breed as well as pure breed dogs who are there at no fault of their own, Also there are many rescue groups to choose from.

THANK you for educating people about my beloved West Highland White Terriers (Westies)…. I have bred and raised them for past 28 years and the most important thing I must have people who want to adopt one know is they can NEVER, EVER let them out w/o a leash (a securely fenced yard is also a must). No matter how well you think you have trained your Westie all of it completely flies out the window if they spy a rodent or other small animal. They will bolt for it and will ignore EVERYTHING else while “in the hunt”… the biggest cause of death for this breed is being hit by ocars because they dart in front of them to get to that prey.. Another large cause is when going after prey like moles or foxes- they dig themselves into a hole so far and tight they cannot get out… that is why they have such strong tail bases… it was only way to save them. They were bred to rid landowners and especially sailing ships of rodents and small animals… and they take their “jobs” very seriously!

Dingo and Desi are my two Pound Puppies. I got Dingo from a young couple who needed to re-home him after they had a baby with medical issues. His other mother had adopted him from the Ft. Worth pound about 7 years ago. I adopted Desi about 5 weeks ago from our local pound here in Kerrville, Texas. Please consider adopting from your local animal shelter or rescue! If you want a "purebred" dog child, most states have breed specific rescues as well. Thanks and have a blessed weekend, y'all.
