POWER DRAW and Large-Curve Massé with a BREAK CUE Phenolic Tip!!!

In response to a social media challenge, Dr. Dave demonstrates power draw and large-curve massé shots with a phenolic tip on a break cue. Contrary to the well-ingrained pool myth, a super hard tip can in fact deliver as much spin as a soft tip.

Anyone who doubts at this point is just a hater. People envy others who have the skill and knowledge.. great video Dr Dave!

This makes sense! An engineering professor with friends like Bob Jewet and Robert Byrne is the ideal candidate to use modern methods and SKILL to PROVE the physics of pool. THANK YOU Dr Dave!

Shane plays with a super hard kamui. He has absolutely no trouble getting massive draw and super spin! Thanks doctor Dave. Some people can't believe the Earth is round either !

Great content as usual, Dr. Dave. I really appreciate how you take a scientific and non-confrontational approach to these investigations. When my son gets old enough, I'm going to encourage him to go through your videos and university stuff so he can absorb all of your knowledge and hopefully become a top notch shooter.

I tried shooting a few racks with my break cue that had a phenolic tip, and I can confirm that Dr. Dave is 100% correct. I have just replaced one of my playing shafts with phenolic tip today. Shot with it for a couple hours and actually loving it. I’ll come back and report in a couple weeks. Thank you Dr. Dave, you have been more helpful to my game than anybody ever has.

Dr. Dave’s info is like a Oak Tree, rock solid. No BS just gray info.

Anything of Dr. Dave’s is great info.🏆

I have a feeling people calling you out over those videos are old-heads who refuse to let go of old myths. I already thought it stood to reason that, as long as you didn't miscue, you'd get more draw with a harder tip due to the increased cue ball speed.

I love you DrDave your kind of a troll posting this cause you know the haters just gonna hate

I use to like discussing why a hard tip could result in more English (Robert Byrnes & Bob Jewett) from my own experience not just from my teachers in the parentheses. Long story short, people do not understand physics which should be a requirement in highschool. There is a little more to it than that and when trying to explain things they just disagree. There are so many binary thinkers out there. I use a Kamui Black Hard and can force draw and masses with it. There is a lot to say about technique than tips. IMO a soft tip will make up for lack of technique/execution of said english shots. I am glad you are proving the point in this video. Great stuff 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Another great video. One thing that I have noticed though, at least in my experience, is that natural wood shafts seem to be able to deliver noticeably more draw than LD shafts.

Excellent work Dave! So when are we going to see the doctor in a tourney?

I like to practice occasionally shooting some racks with my break stick with the goal to not mis-cue. It is suprising that, with diligent chalking, I play pretty well with it, and like you, can get a lot of draw.

Interesting Dr. Dave! I will experiment the power draw with my BK Rush.

I'd rather face the truth than peddle myths around the pool table.. This just proves skill (timing etc) is paramount in executing shots and all others like cues and tips are secondary. Thank you Dr Dave as always.

A question though, assuming the tip stays/touches the cue ball significantly longer accross the board - is the mere fact that its softer means it can impart more spin? Or is it entirely due to the tip contact time?

Hope to get your powerful insight..

Big fan as always.
