What the heck South America? Are you too good for hurricanes? You don't want to join in on the hurricane fun??

As a South American, our biggest natural disasters are earthquakes, fires, and politics so we don't have space to squeeze hurricanes in

Our natural disasters are called politicians

I sometimes think of how terrifying weather like hurricanes must have been before we could track them. Imagine just living on the coast one day and this insane storm comes out of nowhere and just wrecks everything.

as a south American I think we suffer enough with infraestructure problems even without hurricanes

In 2004, the South Atlantic did produce one category 2 hurricane that made landfall in Brazil at peak strength. To call it a freak occurrence does not even begin to describe it. It was considered impossible. Hurricane Catarina is unquestionably the rarest hurricane on record worldwide.

It’s because uncontacted tribes are still performing sacrifices to keep the hurricanes away

I think it’s also worth mentioning that it’s almost physically impossible for hurricanes to cross the equator

In Brazil is not uncommon to see disillusioned people ask themselves how a country with no hurricanes, earthqauakes, volcanic activities and similar things can still be so problematic and unable to go towards a better degree of development

South america has been hit only by one hurricane. Hurricane Catarina in 2004. It was a category 2 and completely unprecedented

I've lived in Panama my entire life. Worst that has happened is a hurricane passing by close to the country, but never landfall, at least not during my lifetime.

Sounds like an open market for hurricane insurance in South America

Brazil gets an occasional tropical cyclone from time to time, though they are indeed rare.

I don't know about that last part Mr. beat, considering how Earthquakes have affected the Andean nations in the past few years, specially Chile in 2010.

Also, Argentina and Uruguay just had a typhoon!
