In this video:
As shocking as it seems today, infanticide was a common practice in Roman times. Before there was more effective contraception, women were allowed to dispose of their children if they so pleased. Boys were more highly valued than girls, but based on archaeological sites, it seems that boys and girls were killed equally.

People Washed Their Mouths Out With Urine. In ancient Rome, pee was such big business that the government had special taxes in place just for urine sales. There were people who made their living just from collecting urine. The ways they used it are the last ones you’d expect. For example, they’d clean their clothes in pee. Workers would fill a tub full of clothing and pee, and then one poor soul would be sent in to stomp all over the clothing to wash it out, which is nothing compared to how they cleaned their teeth.

Phallic amulets and wind chimes were common in Roman households because they were associated with health and prosperity. Ancient Romans also believed it warded off the “evil eye.”

I think living in Ancient Rome would really piss me off

One reason for the eventual success of Christianity is that Christians would go and collect the babies that had been abandoned to die of exposure.

Infanticide was practiced but seen as a bad necessary evil. This rescuing of children was seen as noble.

Using urine as a cleaner wasnt just in ancient rome. Common into 18th and 19th centuries. Urine can be turned into amonia (sic) a common cleaning product today

The tub wasn’t “filled with pee”.
It was used on stains and used in the wash, but the wash was not pure urine.

Infanticide was practiced because the Romans practiced pagan rituals. Pagan rituals call for human sacrifice. It was considered a higher sacrifice when you sacrifice your own child. That's what the archaeological sites discovered.

Fermented pee was used as a detergent until modern times

Interesting how they show attractive women like they really looked like that. It makes the whole channel seem disingenuous.

"Not yet, let's hit the Roman baths first

I remember seeing somewhere that an ancient civilization also used urine as a hair wash? Obviously not a 'shampoo', but I guess like something to wash their hair with? 🤔

They should call it a Roman shower, instead of a golden shower.

These weren't facts. Some of these statements are true, others are a little exaggerated

People dont realize that pee was not as disgusting as it is now because of the diet they had back then
Instead of coke and redbull and shit they drank alcohol or water

A bit off on this one, Romans invented the aqueducts, the first ones to use modern baths, surely they know about hygiene at that time🤔
