Gog and Magog (Part 1) - Bob Cruickshank Jr (2023 Conference)

A look at Ezekiel 38-39, emphasizing past fulfillment and highlighting the abuses and dangers of interpreting this prophecy as yet unfulfilled. Part 1 will briefly survey the four main approaches to the prophecy and focus primarily on the identity of "Gog" (Ezek. 38:1-2, 17), the meaning of "chief (Rosh) prince" (Ezek. 38:2), the means and weapons of the warfare involved (Ezek. 38:4; 39:3, 9), and the historic identity of the seven nations that align themselves with Gog (Ezek. 38:2, 5-6).

Hi Bob, this is an interesting take on who Gog is in Ezekiel 38, but I think it is a stretch to link Gog to Haman based solely on one reference in the Septuagint. One might even say that you are doing the very thing you accuses the futurist of Doing, taking a name and building a biblical narrative around it to link it to a biblical event. I would like to submit to you with scripture that there is a greater biblical precedent that Haman’s genealogy is that of Esau and then can be traced back to Canaan son of Ham. I will give the biblical refences below to why I believe this to be the case. Also, Haman, being a descendant of Canaan fits better into the greater context of the book of Esther. If you would like to discuss that we can take a deeper dive into it but for now here are the References that I mentioned for your study and consideration. I will Begin with Ham in Genesis 9:20–23
20 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 21 Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

Canaan Has sons, notice Heth and the Hivites. Genesis 10:15–20

15 Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth; 16 the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite; 17 the Hivite, the Arkite, and the Sinite; 18 the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were dispersed. 19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; then as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These were the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands and in their nations.

Esau marries daughter of Elon the Hittite. Genesis 26:34–35

Genesis 26:34–35
34 When Esau was forty years old, he took as wives Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 And they were a grief of mind to Isaac and Rebekah.

Rebekah is worried Jacob will take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. Genesis 27:46

Genesis 27:46
46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?”

Esau wifes from the daughters of Canaan, also notice that Esau is Edom. Genesis 36:1–2

36 Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom. 2 Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite; Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

Amalek is the son of Eliphaz, Esau’s son. This is when the nation of Amalek was born. Genesis 36:12

12 Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.

The Lord says to Mosses regarding the nation of Amalek and the nation of Israel. Exodus 17:8–16

8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-LORD-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, “Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

God tell Saul to fully Destroy the nation of Amalek 1 Samuel 15:2–3

2 Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”

Saul disobeys God and spares Agag 1 Samuel 15:9

1 Samuel 15:9
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.

Haman is from the lineage of Agag Esther 3:1–2

3 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. 2 And all the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay homage.

NICE been looking for theses versus for awhile.. you may ask why.. nice of you to ask .. go to John 1:1 read it. now read Ezekiel again.. he also shows up in Jonah 3:1 when Noah gets spit up by the whale. I have to disagree with your presentation of why many Folks believe that Rosh is Russia, Tubal is a city in what is now Russia, Tubal is modern day Tubolsk, Russia is due north of Israel there is much that you might want to learn about this subject, it is actually interesting to dig into, start with the Russian version of their "Smithsonian institute", who the Russian people used to be called (The Russian people who lived in the Steppes specifically).

The final 'prophecy against' (final act in judgment) in the book of Ezekiel.

Son of man, set thy face against Gog H1463 ["mountain"], the land of Magog, the chief prince H5387  ["one lifted up"] of Meshech H4902 ["drawing out"] and Tubal H8422 ["thou shall be brought"], and prophesy against him,  [satan]

And say, Thus saith the Lord YHWH; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
