Why I Believe Saddleback Should Be Reinstated to the SBC

Saddleback Church was recently disfellowshipped from the SBC by its Executive Committee because it ordained three women as pastors in 2021; this in contradiction to scripture and to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Rick Warren wants Saddleback to be reinstated to the SBC at its annual meeting this June 11-12 by a vote of the messengers. This will likely surprise you, but I agree with Rick Warren. Saddleback should be reinstated to the SBC. Here's why.

The many churches within the SBC that are allowing women to preach, pastors plagiarizing other pastors, preaching a false prosperity Gospel, and Baptizing openly homosexual unrepentant sinners are the reasons our church withdrew from the SBC. It is blasphemy !

I’ve been a SBC pastor for over 38 years. I fought the “ Battle for the Bible” during the controversy over the inspiration of scripture. I didn’t fight for all this wickedness going on now!! God have mercy on us!!! We definitely need a Move of God in the SBC!!!

Even before I knew about the scripture forbidding this, I've always been uncomfortable seeing a woman pastor. I'm all for women having high positions in corporations, but in church, it's a different deal.

I'm going as a messenger. I intend to vote to keep Saddleback out of the SBC, and to vote for Mike Law's amendment to the SBC constitution, which would make it clear that all churches with "women pastors" are not in close agreement with the BFM2k and should be removed. I appreciate you Justin, but many of us are trying to be consistent and biblical on both pastoral qualifications and using equal weights and measures, and allowing Saddleback back in to the convention isn't an option if we are going to be biblical.

Thought this was a little click baitish but after watching you have an excellent case here Justin! The bottom line is they need to disfellowship all the others that are in sinful rebellion against the word of God. No way around it.

It seems to me that the SBC now puts more value in its size than it's integrity. A few years ago, my local denomination (Free Reformed Churches of Australia) disfellowshipped our mother denomination (Reformed Churches of the Netherlands) for this exact same theological liberalism. First they allowed a liberal interpretation of Genesis 1-11, and then they began to allow female ministers and homosexual relationships. It was not something we did with any joy, but we had no choice but to break fellowship with all of our previous sister churches after years of calling them to repentance. Now the conservative members of both the Dutch Reformed Church and Reformed Churches Netherlands are being forced to rebuild and reunite as conservative churches again. That is what the SBC needs to do. Get rid of as much bad leaven as possible and call them to repentance. If they are faithful, or if there are faithful members in those churches they will rejoin the fellowship, but leaving all that rot in the denomination will speed up it's demise.

The SBC like so many other denominations have abandoned sound biblical doctrine in order to appease the world. We are witnessing a massive falling away which we know happens before the man of sin is revealed.
