Yes. The title is clickbait. No. I don't care. No, Debian isn't as unstable as Arch. Yes, I know that. This is a story about how I am an idiot.

There is one thing I really didn't like about this video: The way you continually berated yourself. I find your content, your knowledge and your tenacity truly remarkable. I have watched you speak with authority on countless occasions on a wide range of subjects. You, SIr, are about as far away from an idiot or a dummy as it is possible to get. You entertain. You educate. You deliver.

Debian being stable isn't meant to be unbreakable. Debian is stable by design and Archlinux is unstable by definition. What do I mean by that? The term "stable" in software has two meanings: a) unchanging, and b) unbreakable. No distribution is is unbreakable. But there are distributions designed to not change over time automatically, which Debian is designed like that in mind. Arch on the other hand is designed with the philosophy of changing and adapting all the time, even if that "breaks" your system if you do not manually act.

By these definitions, Debian is stable, not changing much and not unpredictable.
I use almost Arch, BTW.

Debian was too stable for your hardware. It happens.

You don't need to change to testing/sid branches. You can get a more up to date kernel from backports or even from other sources like xanmod kernel.

Debian app dependency issue is life threatening. It dropped out my whole desktop env and purged sddm. Had to use timeshift later. Pathetic

I think debian is the foundation of modern linux distros, having said that, fuck those ISOs, spiral linux for the win

I like to think of Stability more like with aeroplanes some distros are designed like the hurricane (i.e debian) with up swept wings which makes them less manoeuvrable but more stable. Other are spitfires with down swept wings (i.e. arch) harder to fly easier to crash but much more quick to resound. Yous can however crash anything that flys.

I do think debian is not a great distro for the desktop it's really designed for the server.

When they're talking about a "stable" distribution, they're not really talking about the stability of the software, but the release cycle. Sure, either a stable release or rolling release can be broken.

Ah the memories, you're not alone Mat. I managed to break Mint by installing using both apt and dpkg, and messing around with some cmake compilations At the end, the one responsible to break anything is oneself.

4:08 "I'm sure I'm making a fantastic impression on all the new subscribers" Yes, you are, at least on those with a well-developed theory of mind. You're making the impression of someone willing to unabashedly admit to their mistakes, laugh at their own expense and move on from that with a solid logical conclusion.

Stable doesn't mean bugless. I do enjoy stability, but Debian is stable as in 'lacks a lot'. Like drivers for stuff. And it is usually stable in lacking the WiFi drivers for example. Modern computing without WiFi is useless. Like LMDE is stable, but not pain in the arse.

if you install bookworm from livecd iso, will not be able to update kernel, known bug but still not fixed in 12.1 release
