The thing is, Italy geopolitical position was and is beyond broken but had and has only 2 flaw that literally ruined everything, if you own either Gibraltar and Suez Italy can't get access to anything, let alone if you own both (laugh in George VI empire) but northern Africa and Europe, where the first was colonised by the French Empire plus, although politically weak af, the UK and the second was not for sale at all (unless you are a guy that was rejected by your art school, even though Germany had still a better position overall), also the italian army was good, and probably one of the strongest (just most of Rommel conquests in Egypt and Northern Africa were because of the italians soldiers and the only general worth the grade, namely Amadeo Guillet), what was weak however were the leaders and the Leader, which basically means that there was no way Italy was going to be a threat
