Honestly I wish I had the patience to be able to do this

That's the life of a farmer; grow crops, take care of livestock, look at the source code of your land, collect clay from specified patterns like nature intented, yep.

Clay farming is the hardest thing to remember

That would explain why it felt like I got nothing BUT clay when I was hoeing around

I use this method to farm winter forage, then turn them to seed for extra money, and also to use them as dirt holder so I don't have to tilt in 1st day

This is the kinda stuff I memorize on a hyper fixation cycle and do forever and feel like I’m cheating even though it’s not lol

Doing a predictable pattern is harder than just making it random.

i thought clay was the most useless thing ingame 😭

I would wager the choice to use patterns instead of "random", time-based placement is a callback to the era of games when consoles didn't have internal clocks.

Back then, games would usually take advantage of the unpredictability of player input to generate seemingly random outcomes, which players of course eventually learned to exploit.

"too hard to code" a random chance that any tile gives clay? That would actually be much easier than what he did with the deliberate pattern.

Giving every time a random chance to spawn clay is just as easy to code as this pattern, maybe even easier

“Because that would be harder to code.” Umm, no?

Let me tell you, making every tile random would have been 10 times easier lol, idk why he did that but that is a pretty cool strategy

There’s no way that was easier to code 😭💀

I dont even play Stardew, but I memorised the clay pattern

Random spawning per tile would be EASIER to implement. Instead of 2 lines with a random number generator, he had to do those 2 lines of random number generator PLUS making every single pattern by hand.

I tried so many times on switch but it doesn't work it. Idk if I'm doing it wrong or just don't work on switch

As a programmer i would think coding each tile to have a random chance at dropping clay to be way easier, BUT what he did was better from a game optimization perspective, because now the game doesnt have to determine if the player gets clay each time they hoe a piece of dirt, it knows it in advance.
