I made the same mistake of drying my clay outside this summer during seed dropping season so a bunch of tiny cottonwood trees started growing in my clay 😅 thankfully I could just pluck them out

1000s of tiny bugs infesting literally ANYTHING especially clay sounds like a nightmare

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE HARD WORK WEDGING CLAY IS!!! No one thinks about how much effort you spend just making sure you have good workable media

Only tiny bug I can think of that might colonize that is springtails, and I'd consider that lucky. Brush em off in your plants/terrariums, they're great for the soil.

I'm also a bit curious if firing pottery made from springtail-enriched clay would lead to little carbonaceous inclusions.

I have major respect for anyone who can wedge like this. I had to avoid using the wheel back when I did ceramics in school because I simply didn’t have the strength or stamina to wedge more than a pound of clay. I really loved the wheel too but when you’re still learning, you often fail fast and I’d have to wedge another before I had the energy to 😞

I use Sheetrock and it gets funky too. My partner gets it from construction sites for me so I also like to use fresh pieces.

You can make a large plaster of paris shallow bowl.. if its thick enough .. pretty much it dries out while you spiral knead the clay in the bowl.

What’s an old house without a murder door, am I right?

We don’t have a murder door but we do have slide locks on like, every door… including closets…
Probably because of sleepwalking, you don’t want to open your closet and have stuff fall on you in your sleep

PSA: I would be careful cutting indoors as hardy board can release particles that may have asbestos which is present the material ( it’s generally safe if cut outside and used for siding and outside purposes but not indoor uses)

You could make a plaster table. Dries clay and slurry really quickly.

I used to love working with clay. Wasn’t great at it but loved it. I miss that.

Seriously thank you for this video!! Im a beginner potter and only have a small room and no outdoor space, buying plaster boards is expensive and i had no where to make them so this is actually a life saver!!

I have a plaster table with an indentation in it and I can dry half a 5 gallon bucket in about 30 minutes to a nice throwing consistency.

Have you ever tried using one of those diatomaceous earth bath mats for drying?

I was absolutely shocked when I started using hard board for my clay! It sucks water out soo well! I love the stuff!!

I truly love your videos. Thank you for sharing! 😊❤

For anyone doing this, it can leave concrete dust from the cuts (Get ready for mess!), and whatever knife you use will be VERY VERY dull afterwards, so definitely use a disposable one!

Very interesting. I think you are supposed to be tag team teaching classes on pottery and clay. I would pay. Keep being awesome

Quite interesting. I never knew I could use it or for trying clay. This is a great idea and I think I'm going to try it out.
